ISA Tianhe was accredited by the World IB Organization in 2016 and authorized by the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB PYP). It is an IB world school. The PYP is an international, trans-disciplinary programme for Year 1-5 students designed to foster the development of the whole child, not just in the classroom but also through other means of learning. The PYP focuses on the total growth of the developing child, encompassing academic, social, physical, emotional and cultural needs.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a curriculum framework available around the world for students from 3-19 years of age. It is taught in state, private, national and international schools spanning 162 countries around the world. The IB Programmes encourage students to be independent thinkers and lifelong learners. Creativity is fostered in all areas of the curriculum, including academic, sporting and artistic disciplines.

The UK National Curriculum of England and Wales, released most recently in 2014, is a set of subjects and standards used by British primary and secondary schools keeping consistency in content, subject specific skills and standards reached. It covers what subjects are taught and the standards children should reach in each subject.

Language is the basis and means of all knowledge learning. It plays a crucial role when students learn about and explore the world. In ISA Tianhe, we provide strong Language Programmes, including English as an Additional Language (EAL), Chinese and Mother Tongue to help students achieve a higher quality education.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Teachers of EAL focus on core reading and writing skills, including comprehension, grammar and pronunciation, as well as giving students confidence in vocabulary building and speaking. The school conducts differentiated teaching according to students' language levels. Students have 4 EAL classes every week to provide students with language support. Our EAL teachers also support students in class in other curriculum areas.

Chinese Programme  中文项目

ISA Tianhe’s Chinese programme uses Chinese textbooks published by the People’s Education Press (PEP), closely following the teaching contents of the local public schools in mother tongue speaker’s students. We provide four compulsory courses and four elective courses per week and conduct differentiated teaching according to students’ Chinese level. Ournon-mother tongue Chinese programme, adopts the teaching materials for foreigners to ensure that children of different countries and regions can also experience the fascinating Chinese culture through studying the language.

爱莎天河学校的中文教学,母语班沿用人教版的语文教材,紧密地与本地公办学校的中文教学内容相联系,夯基固本。采用每周四节必修课+ 四节选修课的模式进行,并根据学生不同的中文程度进行分层教学。非母语班则采用对外汉语的相应教材,使不同国家和地区的孩子能随着中文的学习,感受中国文化的魅力。

In addition to weekly English and Chinese lessons for all the students, those students with a different “Mother Tongue” have several hours of language tuition.

All languages are unique with abundant cultures and traditions. ISA Tianhe's Chinese and Mother Tongue Programme aims to help international students from other countries learn their mother tongues. The programme enables students to develop into emotionally secure individuals, feeling connected to their family’s culture, aware of a variety of other cultures and developing a strong sense of their identity.

·Maths 数学·

ISA Tianhe's mathematics classes adopt Singaporean mathematics textbooks and teaching methods under the IBPYP framework, and are equipped with a strong mathematics team, aiming to cultivate students’ mathematical skills, logical thinking ability and ability to solve practical problems. As one of the core courses, there are 5 mathematics classes per week at the primary school level. The classes are taught by the main teacher. At the same time, bilingual Chinese and English mathematics teachers are assigned to the class to provide mathematics teaching support, giving each student full attention and personalized teaching.

In addition, the school encourages students to actively participate in various international mathematics competitions, and arranges professional mathematics teachers to provide corresponding guidance and training to help students deeply understand mathematical concepts and applications, and strengthen cross-cultural communication skills in international competitions. Since 2019, a total of 42 students from ISA Tianhe School have participated in the Singapore International Mathematical Olympiad Challenge(SIMOC) and won a total of 61 medals. In the 10th SIMOC in 2024, 8 students from ISA Tianhe participated and successfully stood out from 2,200+ students from 35 countries. They won a total of 14 medals, with a 100% winning rate. Among them, Jaden Kong won the individual gold award first in China and second in the world.

此外,学校鼓励学生积极参与到各项国际数学赛事中,安排专业的数学老师给予相应的指导与培训,帮助学生深入理解数学概念与运用,并在国际赛事中加强跨文化交流能力。2019年至今,爱莎天河学校共有42名学生参加新加坡国际数学奥林匹克挑战赛,共斩获了61枚奖牌。在2024第十届竞赛中,爱莎天河学校8名学生参赛并成功从来自35个国家2200+名学生中脱颖而出,共获14枚奖牌,获奖率100%。其中Jaden Kong获个人金奖中国区第一名,全球第二名。


·UOI 探究单元·

Unit of Inquiry (UOI) learning in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IBPYP) is a student-centered learning approach that aims to stimulate students' curiosity and spirit of inquiry through interdisciplinary topic exploration and practical problem solving.

国际文凭小学项目(IBPYP)的探究单元(UOI)学习是一种以学生为中心的学习方式,旨在通过跨学科的主题探讨和实际问题的解决来激发学生的好奇心和探究精神。

The Unit of Inquiry (UOI) integrates subjects such as language, mathematics, science, social studies, arts, and physical education into six transdisciplinary themes: Who We Are; Where We Are in Place and Time; How We Express Ourselves; How the World Works; How We Organize Ourselves; Sharing the Planet. ISA Tianhe encourages students to explore authentic contexts, fostering their critical thinking, communication skills, and collaborative spirit. In UOI learning, students conduct in-depth research around specific themes, which are often related to global issues, society, culture, or the environment. Through interactions with peers and teachers, students not only gain knowledge but also enhance their sense of social responsibility and international understanding. The school provides a variety of field trips every semester according to the different content of students' learning. By visiting museums, science and technology museums and other field trips for, students can apply the knowledge learned in the classroom to practical situations and further deepen their understanding. Through the activities, students not only gain knowledge but also develop their social responsibility and international understanding.

The school organises and participates in a variety of activities to provide students with a platform to showcase their talents, such as choral performances, inter-school football matches, innovation and art competitions. The school offers around 50 club activities, covering different categories such as art and culture, sports, and academic, to meet students' different interests and personalised development needs, and to achieve holistic education. The Co-Curriculum is run by our own teachers and professional teachers from the ISA International Academy.

学校共开设约50个俱乐部活动,涵盖了艺术和文化,体育,学术延伸等不同的种类,满足学生不同的兴趣爱好和个性化发展需求,实现全人教育。拓展课程由校内老师和学苑专业老师提供教学。

Clubs are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:40-4:10PM. Students from Y1-Y5 are required to choose one club for each of the two weekdays and participate in clubs twice a week throughout the year. 

爱莎天河俱乐部时间为每周二和每周四下午14:40-16:10,一至五年级学生根据自身兴趣或者专长,每周参与两项俱乐部。

· Camp  营地教育·

Outdoor education, as an important part of IB teaching, can well cultivate students' spirit of Risk Taker, Inquirer, Balanced, Knowledgeable, Communicator and Caring. The IB inquiry-based teaching mode is adopted in our daily teaching. Apart from guiding students to make use of online and offline learning resources, students are also encouraged to integrate into society and experience different activities.

户外教育作为IB教学重要的一部分,能够很好地培养学生勇于尝试、积极探究、全面发展、知识渊博、善于交流、懂得关爱的精神。在日常教学中采用IB探究式教学模式,除了引导学生利用线上、线下学习资源以外,还鼓励他们融入社会,体验不同的活动。


ISA Tianhe camp emphasises "learning by doing", allowing students to deepen their understanding of knowledge through practical operation, hands-on participation and direct observation, exceeding through the traditional classroom and connecting theory to the real world. The camp is customized by professionals such as education experts, teachers and mentors after arriving at the local area for practical visits. It is a journey to challenge and improve oneself. In 2023-2024 school year, the school organized Y3 students to study in a two-day camp in Dapeng, Shenzhen, and students in Y4 and Y5 went to Yangshuo, Guilin for a three-day camp study last school year.

营地教学强调“做中学"让学生在实际操作、亲身参与和直接观察中深化对知识的理解,突破传统课堂的局限,使理论知识与现实世界紧密相连。爱莎天河学校的营地之旅是教育专家、教师和行业导师等专业人士在到达当地实践走访后精心定制的户外活动项目,是结合体力磨练和心灵感知的一次难忘行程。2023-2024学年,学校组织了三年级学生到深圳大鹏进行为期两天的营地学习,四年级、五年级学生前往桂林阳朔进行为期三天的营地学习。



·PYP Exhibition 小学毕业成果展·

The Primary Years Programme Exhibition (PYPX) is the culmination of the Primary Years Programe (PYP). It is a milestone for IB students. It provides students with opportunities to apply their learned knowledge, concepts, skills and attitudes to take action. Under the guidance of instructors, students conduct investigations both independently and collaboratively with their peers. PYPX is an important event in the last year of primary school, allowing students to demonstrate what they have learned during their years in primary school and engage in a comprehensive process of inquiry and learning. In summary, PYPX is a summary of the PYP and provides students with opportunities to demonstrate their understanding, engage in meaningful inquiry, and act on what they have learned.

小学毕业成果展是学生在国际文凭小学项目(IB PYP)学习之旅的一项结业性质的探究活动,是作为IB PYP学生从小学向中学过渡的里程碑。它为学生提供了机会,让他们应用所学的知识、概念、技能和态度,以采取行动。学生们在导师的指导下,既独立进行调查,又与同龄人合作。PYPX是小学最后一年的重要事件,让学生展示他们在小学学习多年中所学到的知识,并参与全面的探究和学习过程。小学毕业成果展为学生提供了展示他们的理解、参与有意义的探究,并根据所学采取行动的机会。


Professional Teaching Staff 教师团队


ISA Tianhe brings together a group of teachers from around the world, who are highly qualified teachers with average teaching experience of more than 10 years. As IB practitioners, they are proficient in inquire-based teaching and possess a high level of intercultural competence. Among them, the international teachers are from the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and other native English-speaking countries. The Chinese teachers and Associate Teachers are bilingual and selected from the international and national system.

What if my child’s English is not good enough to keep up in class?

ANSWER

At primary years, each class will have a bilingual teaching assistant teacher who will provide language support to children whose native language is not English. The school offers EAL course to meet the needs of students with different language levels. In addition, in terms of mathematics, the school not only has a professional mathematics team. There are also bilingual math teachers who provide language support for students' maths learning. We firmly believe that every child has the potential to succeed and actively create opportunities to meet their needs and discover their talents.

在小学阶段,每个班都会配有一个中英双语的助教老师,会给予英语为非母语的孩子提供一定的语言上的支持。学校开设有英文加强课程满足学生不同语言程度的需求。学校根据孩子当下英语听、说、读、写的水平,把孩子分配到相对应符合他们英语能力的英语加强班。此外,在数学方面,学校也提供了双语数学老师为孩子的数学学习提供语言支持。我们坚信每个孩子都有成功的潜质,并积极创造机会来满足他们的需求、发掘他们的天赋。

Is there any homework for  primary students?

ANSWER

At the primary years, teachers assign Chinese and English written homework to students on a daily or weekly basis to consolidate and review knowledge in the form of homework. The school encourages students to complete homework independently. If students encounter any questions or difficulties during homework, students or parents can actively communicate with the teacher. The school attaches great importance to home-school co-education

在小学阶段,老师按天或按周给学生布置中文和英文书面作业,通过作业的形式巩固和回顾知识。每天的作业量不超过1个小时。学校鼓励学生独立完成作业,如学生在做作业过程中遇到任何疑问或困难,学生或家长可积极与主班老师沟通。

ANSWER

IB PYP encourages the use of assessment strategies to check students' learning in a targeted manner. The main assessment scores are divided into two types: formative assessment is interwoven with daily learning and helps teachers and students find out what the students already know in order to plan the next stage of learning. Summative assessment is used at the end of the teaching and learning process to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of what they have learned.

IB PYP鼓励使用评估策略,旨在清晰展现孩子学习情况。评估主要分为两种类型:形成性评估贯穿于日常学习过程中,有助于老师和学生了解学生已经掌握的知识,以便规划下一阶段的学习。总结性评估运用在教学和学习过程的最后阶段,为学生提供了展示他们所学内容的机会。
