The second week of summer school has come to a successful conclusion. Last week, the children spent a full and unforgettable time together, not only accumulating valuable knowledge, but also harvesting full of happiness and growth. They explored the mysteries of science, felt the charm of art and experienced the passion of sports. Let's review last week's learning journey together!

Last week in our classroom, we delved into the timeless story of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears". The main lesson from this classic tale is to think about how our actions impact others and to show respect for other people's belongings. Our activities centered around sensory exploration, hands-on experiences, and improving oral language skills through storytelling. 

上周课堂上,我们深入探讨了“金发女孩与三只熊”的经典故事。这个经典故事让我们思考我们的行为如何影响他人,并如何尊重他人的物品。我们的活动主要围绕感官探索、动手实践和讲故事提高口头语言技能展开。


Some highlights from last week included setting up a Goldilocks and the Three Bears sensory table to boost our sensory and fine motor skills. To expand our vocabulary and enhance our English speaking abilities, we engaged in games like "Guess the word", where students revealed an image slowly and identified the character or object from the story. To fully immerse our young learners in the theme, we reenacted Goldilocks sampling the three bears' porridge by making and tasting three different porridges to determine our favorite. We even crafted the three bears using bread, peanut butter, bananas, and blueberries to create a yummy bear snack. Class one truly transformed a classic tale into a week filled with excitement and education.

Class 2 Review

During week 2 of Summer School, Class 2 were following the theme of under the sea. We incorporated the theme into our maths and literacy lessons, where we worked on letter and number formation, addition and subtraction, and our CVC reading and writing. The students enjoyed the crafts and art activities based around this theme, taking their newly found knowledge and being able to express it in picture or craft form.

迎来了暑期班的第二周,Class 2的学生们围绕“海底”这一探究单元主题,开展了一系列活动。我们跨学科学习,将这一主题融入到了数学和读写课程中,进行了字母和数字的书写练习、加法和减法运算,以及CVC(辅音-元音-辅音)单词结构的阅读和写作。学生们很喜欢这一主题的手工和美术活动,他们运用新学到的知识,并能够通过图片或手工艺的形式来表达。

In Class 3 we have explored the beauties of our oceans and how they are a part of our world that we should treasure. There are many different oceans, sea creatures and unique habitats. We have tried to create our own aquarium with different creatures in a wonderful calm ocean. Using creativity, imagination and different resources we made a shoe box recreation of our dream oceans. Through literacy we have emersed ourselves with phonics around the marine animals and stories about the oceans. These stories include elements of appreciation and care for the ocean environment. Whilst in maths we have incorporated different sea activities with games and addition. The oceans hold many magical and adventurous stories for us to learn from and appreciate.

Our theme for the second week of Summer School has been,  ‘Dragons.’  Activities have included, dragon numbers, reading comprehension, drawing and painting dragons in art.  Learning poems,   ‘off by heart’ is a delightful way to develop English speaking skills and aquire new vocabulary. Last week we have learned an old English favourite, ‘Puff the Magic Dragon,’ accompanied by beating out the rhythm with untuned percussion and making a ‘Puff’ diorama. The children have also enjoyed plenty of physical activity in PE, dance and biking round Rectory. All the children and the adults have had a  lovely happy and creative week at Summer School.

在暑期班的第二周,我们的学习主题是“龙”。主题活动涵盖了数字龙、阅读理解、美术、艺术创作。其中,我们用愉快的学习方式——背诵诗歌来掌握英语口语技能和新词汇。这周,我们特别学习了一首古老而闻名的英文诗歌《神奇的神龙帕夫》。孩子们不仅用乐器敲出了诗歌的节奏,还亲手制作了一个“帕夫”手工模型。此外,我们还开展了一系列丰富多彩的体育活动,如体育锻炼、舞蹈和红专厂骑行等。在这些活动中,孩子们度过了一个愉快、幸福且富有创造性的一周。

It’s been fun learning and lots of games for class 5 last week at Summer School. We explored the theme ‘Board Games’ and got the chance to learn to play a variety of exciting games with each other. The students learned about instructional writing to help write the rules for their own racing board game which they created. They also designed their boards and made tokens before sharing and playing their games with their friends. It has been another wonderful week here at ISA Tianhe.

Last week, the vibrant and captivating world of the rainforest has truly come alive for our Class 6 students. In our latest Unit of Inquiry, these young explorers have dived head-first into the intricate, multilayered ecosystem of the rainforest. Through hands-on investigation and deep research, they've discovered the incredible diversity of life that calls this lush environment home - from the towering canopy above to the rich, loamy soil below. Along the way, they've gained a profound appreciation for the vital role the rainforest plays in our global ecosystem, and the urgent need to protect this precious natural wonder.

在Class 6,上周的课程活动围绕着生机盎然、引人入胜的雨林世界开展。在新的探究单元中,“小小探险家们”深入探索了这个复杂而多层次的雨林生态系统。通过亲身调查和深入研究,他们发现了这片繁茂环境中令人难以置信的生命多样性——从高耸的树冠到下方肥沃的土壤。过程中,他们深刻地认识到了雨林在全球生态系统中发挥的关键作用,以及保护这一珍贵自然奇观的重要性。


Over in English class, our budding young wordsmiths have been flexing their creative muscles, exploring the beauty and artistry of acrostic poetry. Inspired by the enchanting sights, sounds, and inhabitants of the rainforest, they've crafted their own imaginative verses that beautifully reflect their deep personal connection to this incredible place. Each acrostic poem is a unique and vivid expression of the students' reverence for the diverse flora and fauna found throughout the rainforest.

在英语课上,小作家们一直在锻炼他们的写作创造力,探索首字母缩略诗的美感和艺术性。受到雨林迷人景象、声音、居民的启发,他们利用想象力创作了自己的诗歌。这些诗歌反映了他们与大地和自我之间的深厚联系。每首首字母缩略诗都是学生对雨林中发现的各种动植物独特而生动的表达。


Meanwhile, in Maths, the focus has been on mastering the fundamental concepts of multiplication and division. Through a series of engaging, hands-on activities utilizing a variety of interactive manipulatives, the students have honed their skills in areas like grouping, sharing, and truly understanding the essence of these essential mathematical operations. By applying these skills within the context of the rainforest ecosystem, the lessons have taken on a lively, relevant, and memorable quality.

To wrap up this exciting week of exploration and learning, we came together as a vibrant school community for a special assembly. The students proudly took the stage to share their acrostic poems, each one offering a unique and captivating perspective on the wonders of the rainforest. But the true highlight was when they passionately spoke about the critical importance of preserving this precious ecosystem, captivating the audience with a wealth of fascinating facts and insights. They even unveiled their own interactive dioramas, vividly bringing the rainforest to life right before our eyes. And of course, we couldn't resist ending the assembly on a high note, with an engaging, interactive rainforest quiz that got everyone involved and showcased just how much the students have learned.

Their unbridled creativity, insatiable curiosity, and heartfelt commitment to environmental stewardship have been truly inspiring to witness. Last week has undoubtedly left a lasting impression, fueling their passion for exploration and their desire to make a positive impact on the world around them.
