年度殿堂级音乐剧《绿野仙踪》圆满落幕

六月,惠灵顿杭州校区第三场年度音乐剧青少年版《绿野仙踪》圆满落幕,赢得如潮好评。在全体演职人员的共同努力下,我们将这一经典剧目搬上了舞台。 



这是一个关于勇气、善良与责任的故事:

绿野仙踪是讲述的是小姑娘桃乐丝的故事。一场龙卷风把她从家乡堪萨斯带到了魔法王国——奥兹国。在这里,桃乐丝遇到了铁皮人、稻草人和胆小的狮子,大伙儿一起踏上了寻找奥兹国魔法师的旅程,希望让魔法师送桃乐丝回家。一路上,他们要躲避邪恶的西方女巫的魔爪,不让她夺走桃乐丝脚上那双曾经属于另一位邪恶女巫的魔法鞋。桃乐丝在旅途中领悟了友谊如魔法般的神奇,更体会到漫长旅途之后重返家乡的无比喜悦。

2022-2023学年,在11位老师的大力支持下,79位热爱表演艺术、有着突出才艺的学生踏上了一场震撼人心的音乐剧之旅,为惠灵顿社群成员演绎了一出深受人们喜爱的经典剧目《绿野仙踪》。在这里,创意突破极限,团队协作的精神不断升华,坚持不懈的毅力令人动容;在这里,我们看到音乐、舞蹈和戏剧赋予学生的深远的教育意义。 


序章·梦开始的地方 


       


准备一出像《绿野仙踪》这样的大型音乐剧,夯实的基础很重要。为此,我们花费三个月的时间,开展一系列海选、工作坊和彩排,打造出鼓励人人参与的支持型环境,鼓励每一位同学都来挖掘自己的潜力。就这样,我们精心挑选出音乐剧演员,让每一位演员都能饰演最合适自己的角色。

梦想要大,但不奢望过多。我本来想演女巫的,但是最后分配到比较小的配角。不论角色本身多不起眼,整场演出里的每一个人都是重要的大角色。 



创意 突破 诠释  






想变得有头脑的稻草人、想要有一颗心的铁皮人、想变得有勇气的胆小狮——《绿野仙踪》里的每一个角色都有着生动的呈现方式,演员要怎样才能挖掘出角色独一无二的特点呢?79位学生沉浸到各种戏剧练习、即兴表演小游戏、角色探究工作坊中,在老师的鼓励下去勇敢地尝试不同的可能,大胆地突破固有的框架,从多种的角度研究、阐释各自的角色,将自己的理解融入对角色的演绎中,用艺术化的方式呈现角色的魅力。

携手 合作 共进   



大型舞台演出从来都是集体力量和智慧的结晶。同学们台上台下互相支持,建立起深厚的情谊,进一步认识到合作的意义;音乐剧责任小组的11位老师们完成了舞美建设,设计精美的舞台场景和戏服,编排引人入胜的舞蹈,完善演出的各个细节;每一位演职学生都全身心地投入到各项准备工作和最终的演出中,为实现共同的愿景而努力;整个学校社群也为我们提供了坚定的支持和暖心的鼓励;而最重要的,是演职学生的家长们始终都给予我们的大力支持。我们还要特别感谢惠灵顿杭州校区之友的成员们,感谢你们在那四天里,用40多个小时为72位学生提供妆造支持,让同学们在舞台上熠熠生辉。 



是挑战 更是机遇  



在近乎一年的筹备过程中,我们不可避免地遇到了一些挑战。但是,老师和同学们都把挑战视为成长的机会,积极地去做出调整,逐一击碎困难,昂首迎难而上。这一过程中,同学们的时间管理能力、组织能力、沟通能力等必要技能得到了不小的提升,让大家在舞台之外的学习生活更加充实。 



高潮·梦绽放的时刻   



呕心沥血数月后,同学们终于把这出精彩的音乐剧搬上了舞台。在让人仿佛身临其境的舞台上,演员们忘情地演绎着这则奇幻的故事,把观众带到了魔力无限的奥兹国,如痴如醉地沉浸在摄人心魄的故事中。



这份热爱 从此刻 至一生   



青少年版《绿野仙踪》的筹备与演绎不单纯是为了在舞台上的最后演出,更多的是希望培养学生对艺术的终身热爱。在这一过程中,同学们发现了自己独特的才华,放飞一个个创意,看到合作与倾情投入的意义,秉承着责任、善良和尊重的价值观,变得更加自信,也更乐于去表达自我,并收获了满满的成就感,从而以更饱满的姿态继续前行。

我们饰演的是跳舞的精灵和乌鸦。虽然很辛苦,但是我们觉得特别有趣!周六,我们和老师们一直从下午1点排练到了6点。 


尾声·生如夏花之绚烂    



表演艺术有着变革般的力量。师生携手发挥创意,用坚持不懈的毅力,演绎一场奇幻之旅,让观众们回味无穷。当舞台上的帷幕缓缓落下,这场演出之旅也深深地印在了大家的脑海中,成为每一位参与其中的老师和学生珍藏终生的美好回忆和源源不断的灵感源泉。

这是惠灵顿杭州校区的第三场年度音乐剧。我的内心百感交集,真的无法描述我的激动之情,因为我们真的非常珍视孩子们。我们在尽全力地带去一些改变,这也是我选择当一名教师的原因。我相信会在未来的某一天里看到今天的小演员们登台表演,也迫不及待地希望看到孩子们的表演成果。 





惠灵顿杭州校区表演艺术课程与英国国家课程大纲中的戏剧课程框架相联系,为学生提供有显著教育意义的优质课程。表演艺术课程意义深远,有助于培养学生的创造力、团队协作能力、语言能力和文化认知,还是提升学生英语能力与信心的多彩课程设置之一,支持学生实现长远的个人和学业发展。 



这场音乐剧的成功是团队协作的成果,也离不开学校开设的校园活动(SA)课程。同学们从去年的选课中就开始了音乐剧演出准备。在戏剧、音乐剧表演、合唱团、乐队、管弦乐队、时装设计、设计工艺和伦敦音乐戏剧学院课程等相关的校园活动中,同学们锻炼了与艺术表演相关的技能,进而在舞台上落落大方地开始表演。大获成功的音乐剧表演是展现学生才华的平台,更能为同学们未来的大学申请锦上添花。 


 


It is with bursting pride that we extend our heartfelt congratulations to the whole school community for their collective dedication and hard work in bringing to life the iconic musical classic, The Wizard of Oz - Youth Edition. 



The Wizard of Oz – 

A story of courage, kindness and responsibility.  

The Wizard of Oz is a story of a young girl called Dorothy Gale. After a tornado whisks her away to the magical land of Oz, young Dorothy Gale teams up with a Scarecrow, a Tin Woodsman, and a Cowardly Lion to find the powerful Wizard of Oz, who can send her home. Along the way, they must avoid the clutches of the Wicked Witch of the West, who is trying to steal the mysterious magic slippers that once belonged to her evil sister but are now on Dorothy’s feet. Dorothy eventually learns just how magical friendship can be and how wonderful it can feel to go home again.


Read on to find out more about the amazing behind-the-scenes work that goes into staging such a successful musical production, from the heart of it: our performing arts dream team. 



Over the 2022 - 2023 academic year, over 70 skilful, talented and willing pupils in performing arts, supported by a team of 11 dedicated teachers, embarked on an enchanting journey to bring the beloved classic "The Wizard of Oz" to life for our school community. With boundless creativity, teamwork, and perseverance, this production was a testament to the power of music, dance and drama in education for our pupils.  


Building the Foundation  


       


The first step in directing a large-scale production like "The Wizard of Oz" is laying a solid foundation. We carefully selected the cast, ensuring each student found the perfect role to showcase their talents. We conducted auditions, workshops, and rehearsals for three months, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment that encouraged everyone to explore their potential.

“Think large but expect little. I wanted to go for the witch originally, but I got a much smaller role.   No matter how small the part, everyone plays a big role in the whole thing.”  



Cultivating Creativity  






Every character in Wizard of Oz is unique and can be presented with a dynamic approach. For example, the Scarecrow wants a brain, the Tin Man wants a heart, and the Cowardly Lion wants courage. How do we inspire our acting crew to explore the uniqueness of each character? 79 pupils delved deep into the rich tapestry of Oz through drama exercises, improvisation games, and character development workshops. The teachers encouraged them to experiment, take risks, and explore various interpretations of their characters, fostering a sense of ownership and artistic expression.

Teamwork and Collaboration    



A production of this magnitude requires seamless teamwork and collaboration. The pupils worked together on and off stage, forging strong bonds and learning the value of cooperation. Our production team of 11 skilful and outstanding teachers work on designing beautiful sets and costumes, choreographing elaborate dance sequences, and perfecting musical performances. The cast and crew displayed an unwavering commitment to the shared vision. Furthermore, our entire school community was always behind us, supporting and encouraging us. Most importantly, the parents of our cast and crew were supportive far and wide the whole time. We also thank Friends of Wellington College Hangzhou for organising makeup support and ensuring that pupils were ready to be on stage for each performance.  



Challenges and Growth   



Challenges inevitably arose throughout the year-long production process, but these were growth opportunities. The pupils and teachers learned the importance of adaptability, problem-solving, and resilience. The pupils developed essential life skills such as time management, organisation, and effective communication, which will serve them well beyond the stage.  


Culminating the Journey   



After months of dedication, the stage was finally set for outstanding performance. The pupils stepped onto the stage, and with boundless energy, they transported the audience to the magical world of Oz. Their commitment and passion shone through every scene, captivating the hearts of all who witnessed their mesmerizing performance. 



A Lasting Impact    



Directing "The Wizard of Oz Youth Edition" production was not just about the final performance. It was about instilling a lifelong appreciation for the arts. The pupils discovered their unique talents, nurtured their creativity, and learned the value of teamwork, dedication, responsibility, kindness, and respect through their participation. They developed confidence, self-expression, and a deep sense of accomplishment to inspire them in future endeavours.

The year-long journey of directing "The Wizard of Oz Youth Edition" production was a testament to the transformative power of performing arts. Through collaboration, creativity, and perseverance, these pupils and their teachers showcased the magic of storytelling, leaving a lasting impression on all who witnessed their enchanting performance. This production will forever serve as a cherished memory and a source of inspiration for the pupils and teachers involved at Wellington College Hangzhou.

“Our third Wellington musical, there are so many emotions I am feeling, I really have no words to describe it, as these children mean everything to us.  We are trying to make a difference, and this is why I do this job. I’m sure we will see some of these children on stage and I can’t wait to see the final product of their performing careers in the future.”   





The performing arts programme at Wellington College Hangzhou offers exceptional teaching quality with links to the highly respected framework of the English national drama curriculum providing numerous educational benefits for pupils. It facilitates pupils’ creativity, teamwork, language and literacy skills and cultural awareness.  It is one of our many engaging holistic activities that boosts confidence in English language skills. Ultimately, Wellington and Huili pupils feel rewarded both academically and personally.  


This musical production was a collective College effort. Preparations started last year when pupils began choosing their co-curricular School Activities (SA). Many of these skills have been nurtured through our extensive SA programme, for example, drama, musical production, choir, band, orchestra, fashion design, DT creative design and LAMDA etc. These achievements not only demonstrate their talent but will also serve to enhance their university applications in the future.
