Grade 6-1 - Dr. Holger Meinberg

This week, the students in our science class continued their study of the eye and its role in human vision, which is considered the most dominant sense. To deepen their understanding of how vision works, the students investigated color blindness, the blind spot, and afterimages.


Grade 6-2 - Ms. Laks Narayana

This week in grade 6 science we have continued working on the science showcase. The topics that my students are working on are, circuits, they will introduce Ohm’s law, and finding voltage, resistance and current in series and parallel circuits.


Grade 7 & 8 - Ms. Heather Exum

Grade 7 Students finished working on their Science Showcase boards. And students watched a demonstration lab and how to complete the lab sheet as a practice, then started to plan their own experiment to look at how volume and size could affect how long a candle burns.

Grade 8 Students finished working on their Science showcase boards at the beginning of the week, later in the week students continued to study the periodic table trends and work on their ability to make inferences.


Grade 9-1 - Mr. Nick Smith

This week the Grade 9 science students have been working on their projects for the Science Showcase. The skills that I as a teacher am looking for in this project is the effective communication skills and time management.


Grade 9-2 - Ms. Heather Exum

Grade 9 Students finished working on their Science showcase boards at the beginning of the week, later in the week student continued their study of bioengineering.


Grade 10 - Mr. Nick Smith

Newton's first and second laws continued to be the theoretical studies for this week. A lot of time was given over to practice questions. Students were challenged to apply their knowledge of motion to real-world situations.

Biology Class - Grade 11 & 12 - Ms. Marina Baltikian

During this week, HL students continued their exploration of Sub-Topic 7.1: DNA Structure & Replication, with a specific focus on telomeres and their importance, DNA profiling, and VNTRs/Short Tandem Repeats (STRs). They actively participated in discussions, practical activities, and case studies to deepen their understanding.

I wish all students the best of luck in the upcoming IB Biology exams. May your hard work and perseverance be rewarded, and may you emerge from this challenge with a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment.


Chemistry Class - Grade 11 & 12 - Mr. Nick Smith

This week saw another small milestone completed for the IB Chemistry course. The class completed the SL components of the Thermochemistry topic. The final part of this topic was standard enthalpies of formation and bond enthalpies. 

Grade 12 Chemistry students are taking exams and there is no learning. Some people have been to see me for some Tutoring or help with aspects of their revision. 


ESS Class - Grade 11 &12 - Mr. Luke Bonham

DP1 students in grade 11 have been working on collaborative assignments in which they summarize the characteristics of contrasting biomes in regard to their; productivity, biodiversity, limiting factors and typical latitudes. 

The official IB exams for Environmental Systems & Societies (ESS) have concluded, and we extend our best wishes to all the students in their future endeavors.

Physics Class - Grade 11 &12 - Mr. Devon Bobowski

Grade 11 students determined the electrical resistance for each of the readings, while looking at how length, cross-dival area, and type of material affect the resistance of a metal rod. They will submit an analysis on the data they collected in the lab.

Grade 12, the official IB exams for Physics have concluded, and we extend our best wishes to all the students in their future endeavors.


SEHS Class - Grade 11 & 12 - Mr. Donavan Van Vuuren

In SEHS this week, the students successfully completed Unit 4, marking the conclusion of the theoretical part of the DP1 curriculum. As we transition to the next phase, our focus has shifted towards exam preparation, accompanied by a determined effort to finalize specific components of the IA.

Mandarin Highlights

K1

Our theme this week is Seasons and Summer. The children first learned that there are four seasons in a year, and their names are spring, summer, autumn and winter. Then we learned about the characteristics of each season and what activities we can do in different seasons through the classification card game.

K2

This Sunday is Mother'sDay. This week, K2 students learned about the origin of Mother's Day inMandarin class, reviewed the things that mothers do for us in daily life andthe love mothers have for us, and we made a gift by ourselves for mom. This week K2 non-nativesreviewed words we’ve learned. They can tell me all the parts on their faces.


K3

In K3 Mandarin class, students have learned all the pinyin initials. We went outdoors to play games together and reviewed these initial consonants. As Mother's Day is coming on this weekend, the children read picture books about maternal love and made greeting cards for their mothers.

G1

We had a revision lesson today,and we went through all the idioms we’ve learned and did an acting and guessingactivity about it. Every student picked up an idiom card and acted out aboutit, the rest of students would guess which idiom it is.


G2

This week, students learned the lesson “Zebra and the notebook”. We practiced reading aloud together and learned to use the sentence patterns in the text to create many new sentences.


G3

This week in G3 Mandarin Native class, welearned about 肥皂泡. After reading the text, the students cansummarize the main idea of the text and learn how to use conjunctions and verbsto express a series of actions.


G4

In G4 Mandarin class, westart the unit about the story of growth. Students learned the understanding ofthe classical style of writing, and read them with each other. They workedtogether to find the difference between the classical style of writing and themodern style. 


G5

This week in G5 Languageart class, we corrected each other's essays, and students had the opportunityto see other students' essays and use the methods we learned to correct them,providing suggestions for revision.

CISH

We had a HSK test on May 14th Sunday. Our candidates are some DP students, students from USTC, and parents. This is the first time we run Online oral test.


Ms. Lisa

In Ms. Lisa’s G9 Language and Literature class, we started our new unit ‘Creative Writing’ in the context of Personal and Cultural Expression. We focused on the key concept of Creativity and related concepts of Character & Genre.


Ms. Summer

In Ms. Summer’s G7 Mandarin Language and Literature class, students created public service advertisements in groups. In order to make the advertisement, students were provided with an area and a message they were required to convey through the advertisement.

Ms. Echo

In Ms. Echo’s class, grade 6 language acquisition phase 3 students have been learning the topic community. Students made their own Chinese vocabulary flashcards to play games in class, and in this process, they not only practiced writing Chinese characters but also trained their ability to quickly recognize and read them.


Ms. Jiang

In Ms. Jiang’s G8 Mandarin Language Literature class we started a new unit Theater. We will focus on developing students' self-management and communication skills in this unit. So students collaborate with different partners to explore the characters and sort out the plot of the story when analyzing the script of The Merchant of Venice. 







Mr. Du

Grade 9 phase 3 and 4 students have been learning the unit Global Citizens. This week they learned a new text type: diary. They learned how the concepts, audience, context and purpose related to and affected their writing and connected their experience with their learning regarding different topics such as unforgettable experiences in China.


Ms. Tina

In Ms. Tina’s G7 Phase 4 Language and Acquisition class, students have been learning the unit Happiness and Fulfillment. We focused on the key concept of Community and related concept of Empathy. They have learned many words about housework and family entertainment. 


Ms. Fiona

In Ms.Fiona’s G11 Mandarin B class, students are learning the topic “Migration”. We focused on the culture and life differences in the process of migration. Students also discussed the impact of language difference and dialect. Students did some research on the dialect in China and shared the information with others in the class.
