To bring high-quality education to students in the new semester, there are different workshops conducted by the International Department, such as professional teacher skills training, academic seminars, curriculum design and adjustment, IB knowledge updating and integration. On the one hand, these can consolidate and enhance the teachers' internationalization literacy and professional teaching and learning skills.
On the other hand, it is a brainstorm on how to better cultivate students to become lifelong learners with international mindedness, global vision, emphasis on cooperation, action, respect and empathy.
Below we share two workshops from two outstanding teachers in the International Department.
WORKSHOP OF
INTERNATIONAL MINDEDNESS
PYP English teacher
head of PYP English team
PYP coordinator assistant
As the new school year approaches, teachers eagerly anticipate the return of their students, excited to embark on another year of learning and growth together. As true lifelong learners, our teachers engaged in an enlightening International Mindedness workshop to equip them with the necessary tools to foster a globally aware and culturally sensitive learning environment.
Led by Ms. Diamond, who is an experienced facilitator and who completed a Master of Education dissertation on the PYP student's attitudes towards International Mindedness, the workshop delved into strategies for incorporating diverse perspectives into the teaching and learning environment, the use of the learner profile traits to encourage international mindedness and the promotion of open dialogue about global issues. Through interactive discussions, collaboration, thought experiments, reflection and games, teachers explored ways to transcend cultural barriers and cultivate empathy while nurturing students' understanding of the interconnected world.
The workshop emphasized the importance of embracing diversity and cultivating a global community. Teachers were encouraged to explore their biases, preconceptions, and assumptions, allowing for professional growth and development. By integrating international perspectives into lessons, teachers at CBIS empower students to think critically about global challenges and contribute meaningfully to an increasingly interconnected society.
As teachers engaged in this enriching workshop, they are not only prepared for the academic year ahead, but it has also ignited a ripple effect of cross-cultural understanding and curiosity that will resonate throughout the entire school community.
WORKSHOP OF
INTERNATIONAL MINDEDNESS
Learning approaches are an integral part of an IB education that compliments the IB learner profile, knowledge, conceptual understanding and inquiry learning and demonstrates teachers' professionalism. To further enhance the quality of classroom instruction, IB PYP and MYP teachers attended a training session on August 29th on "Integrating Learning Approaches into Classroom Culture".
During the training, teachers reviewed each learning skill and its corresponding sub-skills in in-depth discussions and sharing divs, and explored concrete ways to integrate learning approaches into the classroom culture. The training has given new impetus for implementing learning methods in actual classroom teaching, which helps to enhance students' generic skills and further promote the development of students' ideological quality.
Teachers join professional development at CBIS, meaning our educators are at the cutting-edge of their profession. They support each other, facilitating students to learn efficiently and helping them grow up as a creative global citizen and lifelong learner.
