During the summer holidays, I went to the Shengdeng Mountain. However, this was not my first visit to Shengdeng Mountain. Just over sixty days after I was born, I climbed up a ten-metre high rocky ridge while being carried one-handed by my dad. Obviously, naturally, such a long time ago has no memory in my mind; however, I did visit once more last year, but because of the extremely bad weather on that day, it could be said that I was very rushed to see the mountain. This resulted in my not having a strong memory of the event. But this time, the clear weather, the lofty mountains, and the company of a few of my best friends were sure to make it memorable. And so, we set off with high hopes as well.
At the beginning of the climb is not difficult, after all, I have also climbed most of the country's famous mountains, this height is naturally difficult to defeat me. It was a few of my friends and the adults who kept getting left behind. However, they seemed to have inexhaustible strength, and whenever I stopped for a short rest, they would catch up. From a distance, we looked like a few dots constantly walking and stopping. The journey was full of laughter and fun.
Finally, we reached the fork in the road. There were two paths: the easy West Mountain Buddhist Path, and the challenging East Mountain Rock Climbing Path. We made a choice without hesitation: "Take the East Mountain."
Although, at first, the East Mountain path was flat and straight and seemed easy. But as we got to the end of this div of the path, we realised that it wasn't easy: this East Mountain was just too steep! It would have been totally impossible to build a path up the mountain. So steel frames have been driven into these rocks so that visitors can grab onto the frames and climb upwards.
Soon we came to the first challenging attraction: the snake shedding its shell. It was a very narrow crevice, only about thirty centimetres wide, only big enough for one person to pass through. It took us a lot of effort, with moss rubbed all over my clothes, to finally squeeze through. When I looked back, who would have believed that I could pass through this place if I hadn't experienced it myself?
Next, we arrived at the most treacherous div: "Shedding Rock". This div is an extremely high rock, the top of which is also the highest point of Dongshan Mountain, and the rock wall is trickily lined with all kinds of steel frames, giving this unclimbable div at least a place to land.
I took the brunt of the climb. Firstly, I reached out and put my hand on the shelf above, then carefully moved my feet to the top and soon climbed some distance. I grabbed on with one hand and turned my head down, urging my friends to hurry up. However they were just watching from below and seemed to be hesitating to come up. I was helpless and shouted, "Are you afraid to come up?" They quickly fell for my agitation and also stretched out their hands to grab the shelf and slowly climbed upwards.
I moved carefully along the rock face, having to keep a constant eye on the somewhat slippery areas, while lowering my body weight to prevent falling. I grabbed the shelf with the moss in my left hand and nearly fell off, but luckily I was able to hold on to the other shelf with my right hand and didn't let go. I was terrified, so I was more careful with each step. Then I leaned against a rocky ridge and caught my breath a little, and it wasn't long before I was on my way. I climbed very fast next, so to speak, but I still kept a careful eye on my surroundings, but I didn't come across anything. Soon it was time to reach the top and I grabbed the railing and popped up in a flash. I excitedly surveyed the scenery below me, and finally, I made it to the top!
