G6 (Mr. Du & Ms. Fiona Li)

In Mr. Du and Ms. Fiona’s Language and Literature class, grade 6 students have been learning the unit Narrative Prose. They just learned the narrative prose "My Uncle Mr. Lu Xun", and the students researched useful information about Lu Xun and did an oral presentation. The students analyzed the structure of the article in the form of group discussions and summarized each div with a title. 


G6 (Ms. Lisa)

In Ms. Lisa's G.6 Mandarin Language Acquisition class, students have been learning our first inquiry unit ‘All about me’ in the global context of Identity and Relationships. We focused on the key concept of Identity and related concepts of Message & Purpose. Students practiced Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing through different kinds of activities every day.

G7 (Ms. Summer & Ms.Miko)

This week, in Ms. Summer & Ms. Miko’s G7 Chinese Language & Literature class, students discussed the problems encountered in modern life based on their knowledge of novels, and created posters. The students from Classes 7-1 and 7-2 worked together for presentations and discussions. Afterwards, they reflected on their learning using the ATL framework.


G7 (Ms. Tina)

In Ms. Tina’s G7 Language Acquisition class, students are learning Unit 1 “Friendship”. We focused on the key concept of Creativity and related concepts of Meaning & Purpose. By studying new words and grammar, they learned how to say dates, months, weeks, and birthdays. We also conducted a series of activities in class to help them remember new words.

G8 (Ms. Lisa & Ms. Tina)

In Ms. Lisa & Ms. Tina G.8 Chinese language and literature class students examined the famous British science fiction short story The New Accelerator written by Herbert George Wells this week. They looked at a variety of writing elements in this short story by group discussions, explored the plot, analyzed the characters and identified literary devices.

G8 (Ms. Summer)

In Ms. Summer’s G8 Mandarin Language Acquisition class, students continued to inquire about the unit 1 “Identity”. After learning the words of relatives, grammar and the text, they made their own family trees to introduce their own relatives. Through such activities, students practiced their speaking skills, Chinese character writing, and how to clearly and systematically explain complex relationships.

G9 (Ms. Tina)

In Ms. Tina’s G9 Language and Literature class, the students conducted in-depth research on the novel 'To Live'. They not only analyzed the death events of the main characters in the text, but also shared their favorite clips.  At the end of the week, they shared their thoughts and insights through a speech. Through these inquiry activities, students have gained a deeper understanding of the historical background and themes of the work at that time.


G9 (Ms. Echo)

In Ms. Echo’s class, grade 9 language acquisition phase 6 has been learning the topic of Abilities and opportunities. After learning basic words, in order to strengthen their memory and practice reading, they write combinations of Chinese characters, English annotations, and Pinyin in triangles, and then exchange and rearrange them among classmates.


G10 (Ms. Echo & Ms. Miko)

In Ms. Echo and Miko's grade 10 language literature has been learning the topic of the Nineteen Ancient Poem 《古诗十九首》. We selected the poem 《庭中有奇树》"A Wonderful Tree in the Courtyard" for study. Its poetic structure is very unique, starting from the tree in the courtyard, then moving to the leaves, flowers, and picking. Although it portrays a vibrant scene, it also expresses a deep sense of helplessness and longing.

G10  Chinese B (Ms. Michelle)

In G10 Language Acquisition class, we have focused on students' reading and writing abilities this week. Through various writing games, everyone has gained a deeper understanding of radicals, Chinese characters, and words. ATL guides students to think about how to learn knowledge, and for complex Chinese characters, they gradually master the methods of writing and memorizing.


G11 & G12  Chinese B (Ms. Fiona)

In Ms. Fiona’s G12 Mandarin B class, students are focusing on the topic Technology and Science.In order to understand the most advanced scientific technology, students conducted extensive research on products related to new technologies. They introduced and analyzed the uses, features, and conveniences brought by these products. Through their sharing, students gathered more information about high-tech products and expressed their own opinions and perspectives.


G12 Chinese A (Ms. Michelle)

In Ms. Michelle’s G12 LL, we are focusing on Zhang Ailing’s another novel - The Golden Lock. As they learned her novel - love in a fallen city, they have mastered the historical background, techniques, language style, and narrative techniques of her writing. They worked in groups to read and study. They will present their finds next week.

Grade 1 (Katija Bogdanic)

A big week for our first grade artists! We continued to explore all the ways they can express different emotions through their art. On the first day we read Dolly Parton’s “I Am a Rainbow” and we talked about how we can draw facial expressions and use colors to show a variety of emotions. We learned about primary and secondary colors and did our own color mixing with watercolors. We continued the project with the color dots and facial expressions by adding our secondary colors.

Grade 2 (Katija Bogdanic)

The second grade artists finished their observational drawings in charcoal. We added color to our leaves and cut them out for our big group project coming up next week. The artists learned how to use soft pastels and everyone was very gentle with the new material. We practiced color mixing and layering with the pastels in our sketchbooks.

Grade 3 (Katija Bogdanic)

The third grade artists were perfecting their craft in bamboo ink paintings this week. We learned the proper methods to paint bamboo leaves and stalks by learning how to hold our brushes and mix our ink with water. Everyone did so well with the cleanup routine that they were rewarded with stickers for their sketchbooks! Tomorrow we will start on our final drafts.


Grade 4 (Katija Bogdanic)

The “Drawing Ourselves Without Drawing Ourselves” project about identity and self-expression is coming to its final chapter! All of the artists were busy this week working on their final drafts. By doing an in-progress gallery walk, we were able to learn from each other by observing each other’s ideas and compositions. We are all very excited to see the final drafts next week. 


Grade 5 (Katija Bogdanic)

The artists are working hard to finish their optical illusion paper weavings this week. We laminated our weavings to make our artwork into functional placemats, which we will use throughout the year. We learned about the artist Victoria Villasana who works with sewing thread onto photographs.

Grade 6 (Roxane Joubert)

Grade 6 students explored the captivating world of technology in art. We investigated both ancient and modern technologies that artists have harnessed to create masterpieces. Students engaged in a thought-provoking discussion, weighing the advantages and drawbacks of our reliance on technology in the art-making process. It was a week filled with creativity and technological exploration!


Grade 7 (Roxane Joubert)

Grade 7 students delved into the world of Josef Albers, exploring his renowned nested squares, use of simultaneous contrast, gradation, transition and his take on colour theory. They embarked on a creative journey, crafting a series of squares, each adorned with 4 distinct hues. For the latter part of the week, we sourced reference images in preparation for our upcoming summative assessment.


Grade 8 (Roxane Joubert)

Grade 8 examined the world of sculpture, researching the 11 distinct types of this art form. This exploration aimed to broaden their comprehension of public sculpture and sculpture in various environments. By discerning the differences between these types, they're better equipped to develop their own maquette sculpture projects later next week.

Grade 9 (Lucian Stefanescu)

This week Grade 9 continued their practice sketching simple volumes like cubes, pyramids and cylinders while a few students started their summative assessment task. These foundational basic will develop their understanding of 3-D forms as it exists on a 2-D plane and it will inform their summative architectural concept drawing assessment.


Grade 10 (Lucian Stefanescu)

Installation art is an artistic genre of three-dimensional works that are often site specific and designed to transform the perception of space. Generally, the term is applied to interior spaces, whereas exterior interventions are often called public art, land art or land intervention.

During this week, some Grade 10 students continued working on their sketches of ideas informing their final artwork, a scaled down model of an installation, while most of them started their work on the installation model.


Grade 12 (Lucian Stefanescu)

In Diploma Programme, our student continued her previous year’s work on her portfolio and started her independent studies lens unit, studying DSLR cameras and their manual settings. This week she practiced the capture of movement using various shutter speeds and panning technique.

Pre-K (Darren Bayotlang)

Prek-Circle time moments with the PreK’s involving scarves, “Peekaboo,” and the simple movement song “Shake it Together.” These engaging activities not only captivated the children's interest but also encouraged their active participation and cooperation in musical activities.


K1 (Darren Bayotlang)

K1-In this week's music class, we started on an exploration of how our bodies respond to beat and rhythm. Through the engaging song "Shake It Together," we encouraged our students to utilize their listening skills. This activity aimed to develop their awareness of different movements and foster a deeper connection between music and physical expression.


K2 (Darren Bayotlang)

K2- In this week's music class with the K2's we had an exciting and fun activity called "Monkeys." This song activity aimed to build a connection between movements and rhythm. At the same time, our students explored more imaginative movements and learned the importance of cooperation and building connections.


K3 (Darren Bayotlang)

K3-This week, the K3 students had fun learning to match "Beat and Rhythm" with their singing voices in music class. We did a call-and-response activity where they had to repeat the rhythmic patterns "Cherry-Lemon-Peanut Butter-Plum." They loved being creative while learning about music.

Grade 1 (Snow Zhou)

Grade 1 students began their musical journey with a focus on vocal pitch. We explored high and low notes, practicing simple melodies. Their enthusiasm for singing and discovering their vocal range is evident, and they are off to a great start as young singers.


Grade 2 (Snow Zhou)

In Grade 2, we continued to explore vocal pitch in singing. Students learned about high and low pitches and applied this knowledge to sing in tune. They started working on a song to develop their pitch control, and their progress is promising.

Grade 3 (Snow Zhou)

Grade 3 students deepened their understanding of vocal pitch and its importance in harmonious singing. They practiced more complex songs, focusing on pitch accuracy. Their dedication to improving their singing skills is commendable.

Grade 4 (Snow Zhou)

This week, Grade 4 students honed their pitch control and explored singing harmonies. They are working on singing in harmony in small groups and are making impressive progress in adjusting their pitch for different emotional expressions in songs.

Grade 5 (Snow Zhou)

In Grade 5, we delved into advanced vocal techniques, emphasizing pitch modulation and control. Students are practicing challenging vocal exercises and intricate vocal arrangements. Their dedication to mastering the art of singing is evident, and they are poised for success in upcoming musical projects and Christmas shows. 


Grade 6 (Jose Correia)

Grade 6 It's working the unit "An Introduction to Theatre," offers students an exciting exploration of the captivating world of theatre. Throughout the course, students will become familiar with essential theatre terminology, discover the diverse practices of theatre around the globe, and engage in a variety of stimulating activitie such as script work and devising.

Grade 8 (Jose Correia)

Grade 8 is working on body percussion with harmony, in which they have to compose a harmonic sequence with melody, finger snap, hand clap, chest, legs and vocal sounds.


Grade 9 (Jose Correia)

In this unit students will explore the performance and analysis of a piece of music in which they have to choose a piece and analyze it in detail using four of the musical elements.

Grade 10 (Jose Correia)

They are working in the IB Areas of Inquiry (World Music for sociocultural and political expression, listening and performance, dramatic impact, movement and entertainment, technology in the electronic and digital age.

Grade 7 (Jonny Turvey)

Grade 7 students continued with their summative task, focusing on exploring various eras of theatre history. They began by selecting an era such as Elizabethan, Renaissance, Medieval, and more, and diligently researched and completed an information page detailing the characteristics and significance of their chosen period. 


Grade 10 (Jonny Turvey)

Grade 10 drama students have been fully immersed in the exploration of Shakespeare's sonnets as part of their summative task. Each student has been actively engaged in studying and analyzing various sonnets, delving into the rich language, themes, and emotions conveyed within these poetic works. Students have been organized into groups and tasked with creating a unique and creative performance of their chosen sonnet.
