Grade 6 (Ms Joubert and Mr. Dooley)

Ms Joubert’s Grade 6s participated in a lively class discussion, exploring the concept of learning from defeat and disappointment. It gave students an opportunity to share personal experiences and cultivate critical thinking skills.

Meanwhile, Mr. Dooley’s Grade 6s had a good week. Students started by listening to audio giving advice for students attempting to make friends. Then they discussed the advice given by the speakers and analyzed their relevance.

Grade 7 (Mr. Hood and Mr. Dooley)

Mr. Hood’s Grade 7s started the week being introduced to formal presentation writing and presenting. Upon completing a lesson on formal writing, the Grade 7s started their first formal presentation task for the year. 

Meanwhile, Mr. Dooley’s Grade 7s started off by making some final edits to their presentations showcasing a natural landscape and discussing whether we believe that it should be developed into a tourist attraction.

Grade 8 (Mr. Hood and Ms. Bartoszak)

Mr. Hood’s Grade 8s have been focusing on Heidi and completed a Heidi comprehension this week which asked them questions based on pieces of text removed from the book. The results of the comprehension showed that most of the students have good comprehension skills in terms of analysing a text for correct answers.

Meanwhile, Ms Bartoszak’s grade 8 students started the week by developing their English grammar. Students firstly watched a video about infinitives and how to use them accordingly and well as with gerunds.

Grade 9 (Mr. Hood and Mr. Dooley)

Mr Hood’s Grade 9s have been very busy this week focusing on wedding customs. The country chosen for this segment was Greece as it has rich and very diverse wedding customs that derive from Eastern and Western cultures.

Meanwhile, Mr. Dooley’s Grade 9s also had a very productive week. Students started off our week by listening to some different childcare practices from around the world and comparing them to our own experiences.

Grade 10 (Ms Najuma and Mr. Dooley)

In Ms. Najuma’s Grade 10 English class, the students continued their exploration of uncommon and dream careers. Building upon previous lessons, they concluded their exploration of “too-good-to-be-true” employment advertisements through an oral presentation of a unique job that piqued their interest.

Meanwhile, Mr. Dooley’s Grade10s started off our week by looking at CAMP analysis and practiced using CAMP with our favorite texts. Students looked at some different case studies depicting different work experience events and discussed which of the opportunities they would most like to take part in.

Grade 11 (Ms. Bartoszak)

Ms Bartoszak’s Grade 11 students stated the week by developing their reading skills as well as extending their vocabulary range. They also completed set tasks based on the article. Students further explored the features of a professional article and guidelines to develop their conceptual understanding of guidelines and register. 

Grade 12 (Mr. Kiefer and Ms. Bartoszak)

Mr Kiefer’s DP2 English B students explored the theme of Identities by focusing on gender and identity. They practiced the skill they reviewed last week of guessing the meaning of words in context by filling gaps in a reading using a list of unfamiliar words.

Meanwhile, Ms Bartoszak’s students continued to develop their vocabulary and reading skills by exploring an extract from an article: Your values Your life, which was further set for homework. Students ended the week by being introduced to the novel Lord of the Flies: Social historical context as well as the author: William Golding and his personal connection to the content of the novel.

Pre K

Ms. Polly Coronel and Ms. Kirsten Hernandez

We had an absolutely wonderful day in our Pre-K class this week, all about the theme of "Happiness"! Students expressed their happiness through facial expressions. Each student got to look at themselves in the mirror and show their happiest faces. We then embarked on a creative adventure, making smiley crafts. The children worked together in placing magic noodles and colorful pom pom balls onto their smiley pictures.

K1

Ms. Erin Wang and Ms. Sati Tadevosyan

In Inquiry this week, we introduced the senses of touch and sight, explored them through a variety of games and sensory stations, and created a sensory texture collage.

In Language Arts, we introduced the letter 'a', had great fun making alligators, and read the story "There's an Alligator Under My Bed."

In Math, we are learning numbers 1 and 2 as well as the shape of a circle. We played a variety of games.

K2

Ms. Mika, Ms. Sue, Ms. Red

This week in K2 we have covered the letter T! This is following on from our work the previous two weeks with letters S and A. Our highlight of the week is our letter T crafts. In each K2 class we made something to do with tigers to practice word association and pronunciation. Throughout the week K2’s have also been trying to find anything that starts with the letter T like the turtles in the turtle pond.

K3

Ms. Emily Coffey and Mr. Dean Fletes

This week in K3 Mathematics, we reviewed numbers from 1-20 with a focus on numbers 15-20. We had a lot of fun practicing, recognizing and writing numbers as well as learning about different representations of numbers. We also practiced putting numbers in order using a few different activities. In our favorite activity we helped a train get to all of the stations in the right order, while working on our recognition and counting skills!

Grade 1

Ms. Victoria Quercia and Ms. Katherine Turner

In Language Arts, we have been exploring a different story each week. The children listen to the story, and then we ask and answer questions about the narrative in order to build on our fact-finding and comprehension skills. The children are working towards using this exploration questioning in order to write a book report about a story they have read.

Grade 2

Ms. Camila Kemeny Larrondo and Mr. Steven Davies

This week in our inquiry lessons, students have embarked on their summative assessment focused on "Personal Growth." The assessment provides an opportunity for students to showcase their conflict resolution abilities, teamwork, and compromise skills. Students eagerly created their own invaders and designed forts and spaces to keep themselves safe. This activity not only reinforces concepts of conflict resolution and goal-setting, but also empowers students to enhance their social, collaboration, and communication skills.

Grade 3

Mr. Jeremy Boudreau and Ms.Kelly House

This week in our Language Arts class, we've been busy with two exciting activities. First, we've been working in reading comprehension groups, where students collaborate to answer questions about a story that matches their reading level. At the same time, we're also focusing on biographical writing. The next step is students using these notes to write a short biography about their chosen historical figure. 

Grade 4

Mr. Adam Fell and Ms. Carla Du Toit  

Grade 4 classes we expanded our knowledge of multiplication methods, which proved to be an enriching experience. Through the exploration of traditional, array, lattice, and area multiplication methods, students not only expanded their understanding of multiplication but also showcased remarkable thinking and communication skills. They demonstrated their ability to think critically and apply different strategies when solving multiplication problems.

Grade 5

Ms. Patricia Larrondo and Mr. Matthew Facey

This week as we explore more deeply into the levels of conflict that are most appropriate with respect to our students (personal and social level conflicts), students wrote mini-scripts to perform role-play situations for presentation in our classrooms. The students created settings, characters and plots for a two-part skit.

Extended Essay (EE)

DP1 Extended Essay students are starting to look into the topics they are most interest in for their essays. This will take a few lessons to explore what inspires them for each topic and determining if it is sustainable for an Extended Essay option.

DP2 students, they are diligently working on their Extended Essay drafts in preparation for the September 25th deadline. Many of them are in the final formatting stages, adding the last elements to their Extended Essays. 

Creativity, Activity, Service

DP1 students embarked on a thorough exploration of CAS and its significance within the IB framework. We focused on dissecting key CAS components to establish a strong foundation for effective planning and engagement as they initiate their CAS journey. 

DP2 students are deeply engaged in finalizing the last phase of their 7-month CAS adventure. They have developed action plans that encompass both ongoing and new experiences, ensuring alignment with essential criteria. 

Theory of Knowledge

Grade 11 TOK students focused on TED Talks this week, selecting topics of personal interest and formulating knowledge questions related to those topics. They critically analyzed the construction and evaluation of knowledge in the talks, exploring the implications and limitations of the presented knowledge. 

Grade 12 TOK students actively participated in their assignment, focusing on the evaluation of knowledge claims within a controversial topic. Through presentations, debates, and seminars, they critically analyzed different perspectives, arguments, and evidence.
