The Science of Reading Workshop at SIS I 科学阅读研讨会

At SIS, we continuously enrich our teaching approach by inviting external experts to ensure our educators stay at the forefront of pedagogical excellence.


From October 10th to 13th, the SIS Mandarin Programme had the privilege of hosting Ms. Aiqin, an esteemed education expert with a wealth of experience in PYP and Chinese programmes. Ms. Aiqin delivered a comprehensive three-day reading strategy programme tailored specifically for our Mandarin teachers and students. 


During Ms. Aiqin’s visit she focused on: 

Grade-level team workshops

Collaborative planning

In-classroom teaching demonstrations 

Parent EDU workshop 


Empowering Pedagogical Integration  

Ms. Aiqin’s workshop was a dynamic blend of pedagogical excellence. She embarked on the training journey by introducing a rich tapestry of reading strategies and concepts. With a keen focus on interactive reading research and methodologies, she equipped our teachers with further understandings of the core elements that underpin reading.

The most transformative aspect of the workshop was the open discussion about the realities of daily reading instruction and personalised solutions tailored to students at different grade levels. This co-planning between Ms. Aiqin and our Mandarin team supports students to maximise their reading capabilities across the board, aligning with SIS’s commitment to empowering students to excel in an interdisciplinary setting.  


Connecting Interactive Reading with Students  

Ms. Aiqin seamlessly transitioned from theory to practice. Through the in-classroom teaching demonstrations, she exemplified the art of interactive reading with students, showcasing the application of reading strategies in context. 

SIS students actively engaged in this dynamic reading experience. They explored context from diverse perspectives and openly shared their insights with peers and teachers. The essence of interactive reading is not confined to the pages of a book, it is about stimulating the agency of students. Through interactive reading, our students have discovered not only knowledge but also sets of critical thinking skills and comprehensive strategies in the world of literacy.  


The Science of Reading Parent EDU Workshop 


The journey of reading at SIS extends beyond the classroom and into the heart of the home, building the foundations of lifelong learning. That’s why the culmination of Ms. Aiqin’s workshop included a special one-hour Science of Reading Parent EDU workshop, sharing the methodologies for nurturing children’s reading habits. 



It was also a collaborative dialogue between parents and our external expert, offering an opportunity for parents to ask questions, seek guidance and share their own experiences in fostering a reading culture at home.  




The Science of Reading Workshop at SIS is a testament to our commitment to enriching our learning experience far beyond the classrooms, and working together to empower our young Geckos’ minds to become active agents of their education.

这次研讨会最引人注目的部分是有关日常阅读教学现实的开放式讨论,以及为不同年级的学生量身定制个性化解决方案。在这个研讨环节中,Aiqin老师和我们的中文教师共同规划教学方案,促进学生全面提高阅读能力。这与 SIS 致力于培养学生在跨学科环境中取得优异成绩的承诺完美契合。



学生互动式阅读


在课堂教学演示中,Aiqin老师巧妙地将理论转化为实践,让阅读方式变得栩栩如生。除此之外,Aiqin老师还向学生演示了互动阅读的艺术,同时展示了如何将阅读策略应用于不同的真实学习场景中。



我们的学生积极参与了这种生动的阅读体验。他们从不同的角度探索文本背景,并与同学和老师分享了他们的见解。互动阅读的本质并不仅仅关乎于书本内容的理解,更是激发学生主动学习的工具。通过互动阅读,我们的学生不仅学习了知识,他们还掌握了批判性思维技能,并且提升了阅读理解能力。



科学阅读家长教育研讨会 


SIS 的阅读之旅不仅局限于课堂,更是延展到了家庭教育之中,为学生的终身学习打造全方位的基础。因此,Aiqin老师研讨会的高光时刻,包括了一小时“科学阅读家长教育研讨会”,她与家长们分享了培养孩子阅读习惯的方法。



这次家庭教育研讨会也是家长与外部专家之间的合作对话,它为家长提供了提问、寻求指导,以及分享自己在家庭中,培养阅读文化经验的宝贵机会。 




SIS “科学阅读研讨会”体现了我们致力于丰富老师及学生课堂之外教与学的体验,共同促进年轻的壁虎学子不断成长为学习的主人。
