围绕TWIS“体验式教育”的理念,我们设计了“无墙周”,它代表了超越课堂物理范围的持续性学习,其目的是增强学生的社区意识,加强积极的价值观,培养学生的独立性和团队合作能力。这些技能将对她们未来的生活和学习起到极大的帮助。
Our educational philosophy at TWIS revolves around experiential education, and the Week Without Walls is a reflection of that ethos. The journey doesn't merely begin where the class ends; it represents a continuum of learning beyond the confines of the classroom. The purpose of this event is to imbue our students with a heightened sense of community, strengthen positive values such as resilience, and cultivate independence and teamwork skills. These skills are not only crucial for high school but will also serve them well during college and beyond.
当学生们远离了城市喧嚣,埋头服务于群山之中,一路上他们用脚步丈量着百年文化,也将汗水和泪水洒在了这片土地上。
Escape the hustle and bustle of the city, which is surrounded by picturesque mountains. Explore the centuries-old culture on foot and inhale the fragrance of history as you hold a handful of soil.
肇兴侗寨与云水谣土楼,这分别位于贵州黔东南和福建闽南地区、相隔千余公里的两个文化古镇,被TWIS的同学们用两场关乎人文历史和社区服务的“无墙周”活动连接了起来。
Zhaoxing Dong Village and Yunshuiyao Tulou, two ancient cultural towns located in the southeastern part of Guizhou and the southern part of Fujian, more than a thousand kilometers apart, were connected by two WWW community service for TWIS students.
风格迥异的民族服饰不约而同地体现着两地人民淳朴的民风,极具特色的地方建筑则委委诉说着两个民族的百年沧桑。对于成长在城市中的TWIS学生来说,当真实地见到课本描述的景象时,一切都是熟悉的,一切又都是新奇的。通过几天与当地人民同吃同住的经历,同学们逐渐融入到了当地的文化中,即便是外教们,也多多少少学会了一些村民们朴实的地方语言。
The unique local architecture vividly narrates the century-old vicissitudes of the two ethnic groups. For TWIS students who have grown up in cities, everything they see in textbooks becomes familiar yet novel when they witness the described scenes in reality. Through several days of living and dining together with the local people, the students gradually assimilate into the local culture.
通过对地方民族志(民族志:Ethnography,是人类学的一种研究方法和写作文本,是基于实地调查、建立在人群中第一手观察和参与之上的关于文化的描述,以此来理解和解释社会并提出理论的见解)的走访和了解,同学们将课堂中所学的I&S课程(人文社会学)知识融会贯通,之前仅存在于书本中的内容,逐渐深深地刻印在他们的脑海里。
Through visits and understanding of local ethnography, the students integrate their knowledge from the I&S (Individuals and Societies) course into real-life experiences.

我们非常享受与当地人交流,感受他们热情的歌舞,他们非常的友好,我非常开心能在这次旅行认识到他们。
无论是侗族的木桥,还是漳州的土楼,现存完好或残缺的木料和砖石都无声地记录着当地厚重的历史文化积淀。它们有些依然在被使用,有些已经破旧不堪,无法再承载当年的功用。修缮这些民族建筑是同学本次行程的重要一环,每一击锤打、每一次堆叠仿佛都在回应着历史,隔着时空与当年的工匠互诉着时代的荣光。
Whether it is the wooden bridges of the Dong people or the earth buildings in Zhangzhou, the existing intact or incomplete wood and bricks silently record the rich historical and cultural accumulation of the local area. Some of them are still in use, while others are dilapidated and can no longer carry their original functions. Repairing these ancient structure is an important part of the students' trip. Every hammer blow and every stack seems to be responding to history, and the craftsmen of that year communicate with each other across time and space about the glory of the times.

通过这次活动中,我学会了怎么通过服务和行动来改善他人的生活和环境,并以独立自主的精神来迎接新的挑战。
与侗族“友善互助”的淳朴民风相得益彰的,是TWIS的同学们在劳作时表现出的“Caring”(IB十大学习者属性之一:懂得关爱)的优秀品质。对于不习惯体力劳作的他们来说,连工具的使用都需要从新学起,但是在泥泞湿滑的山路上,彼此之间的搀扶使他们感受到了从未有过的力量。
Complementing the Dong people's simple folk custom of "friendliness and mutual help" is the excellent quality of being caring, which is one of the IB learner attributes, displayed by TWIS students while working. For them, who were not used to physical labor, even the use of tools added another layer of challenge. However, on the muddy and slippery mountain road, the support they gave to each other gave them strength to carry on.

在这个过程中我学到了很多新的东西,并收获满满的成就感。
竹筒糯米饭、酸鱼汤、油茶、椪柑、乌龙茶、五彩年糕、客家糯米醪糟…酸甜苦辣咸,每一口都是贴近自然的味道,也是对TWIS同学们辛苦付出的回报。劳作后身上的尘土会在回家之后被洗去,吃到口中的滋味则会留在每一位同学的记忆里。
Bamboo glutinous rice, sour fish soup, oil tea, ponkan, oolong tea, Hakka glutinous rice soup...sweet, bitter, spicy and salty, every bite is a taste close to nature, and a reward for the day’s hard work.

这是一段非常有趣的时光,使我对侗族文化有了更深入的了解!
在即将告别云水谣土楼的时候,同学们轻抚着榕树下的一条被踩磨得异常光滑的鹅卵石古道,相传这是当年长汀府通往漳州府的一条必经之路。同学们的目光延伸向远方,仿佛看到了千年的历史,又仿佛看到了通往未来的路,目光中充满了坚定。
When they were about to bid farewell to the restoration site, the students stepped on an ancient cobblestone path that was worn extremely smooth under the banyan tree. According to legend, this was the only way from Changting Prefecture to Zhangzhou Prefecture. The students' gazes extended into the distance, as if they were seeing thousands of years of history and the road to the future, and their eyes were full of determination.

在旅行即将结束的最后一晚,我看到学生们在侗族男女的吟唱声中围着火堆跳舞、唱歌,这是一个跨文化理解的夜晚,足以帮助学生促进相互理解和加深对不同文化的尊重。
The trip's climax occurred on the last night when students danced and performed songs around the fire, echoing the chants of groups of Dong women and men. It was a night of intercultural understanding and an unforgettable experience. The students came to realize that working together fosters mutual understanding and respect for different cultures.
Mr. Jaime:
在即将离开福建,看着土楼离我们越来越远的时候,我忽然意识到;本次学生们不仅仅完成一项艰巨的体力任务,更是在心里种下了一份承诺,这份承诺包含同学情谊,也包含了保护历史文化的决心。我相信这段旅程所带来的影响会永远铭刻在同学们的脑海中。
Looking back on those transformative days in Fujian, I realized that the true reward wasn't just in the completion of the physical tasks; it was the unwavering commitment, camaraderie, and sheer determination that left an indelible mark on my heart. The journey may have ended, but the memories and the impact of our service as action will forever remain etched in my mind.
