Dear families,

SIS strongly condemns all forms of violence, with a particular emphasis on the rejection of terrorism and war. Education champions the use of peaceful dialogue and negotiation to resolve disputes. SIS recognizes the severe consequences that violence can have on societies. We hold the conviction that by promoting education and fostering mutual understanding, we can prevent conflicts and cultivate a global culture of peace and collaborative international relations.

Access to media profoundly shapes public perception of conflict, with extensive coverage often amplifying emotions such as fear, anger, or empathy. We recognize that in today's saturated media environment, students have access to extensive information -- both true and not true and some quite graphic in nature, creating a sense of immediacy and connection to global events.

This week, I have been in Beijing working with the Council of International Schools, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the International Baccalaureate. Being part of an accreditation visit provides important reflection opportunities about the SIS context and the future strategic improvements we must consider. In comparing two similar schools, we have many things to celebrate, but we also have areas for further growth. These areas include collating all of our standard operating procedures policies, having consistent language use for behaviour from Nursery to Grade 12 that incorporates Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Responsible, as well as the attributes of the IBO Learner Profile and consistent quality learning and teaching through every staff and student interaction.

A noteworthy mention is that our IB action plan for the three programmes, PYP, MYP and DP, has been updated and is well underway. Our MYP authorization will be scheduled for semester 2 of the 2024-25 academic year.

这周，我在北京与国际学校委员会（Council of International Schools）、西部地区院校协会（Western Association of Schools and Colleges）以及IB国际文凭组织（International Baccalaureate）合作。参与认证访问给予我们宝贵的机会，让我们深入反思SIS的现状和未来战略改进方向。通过与两所类似学校的比较，我们有很多值得庆祝之处，但也发现了需要进一步发展的领域。这些领域包括整合我们所有的标准操作程序政策，确保从幼儿园到12年级对行为采用一致的语言，包括“安全，尊重，负责”的原则，以及国际文凭组织学习者概况的素质，以及通过每一次员工和学生互动实现一贯的优质学习和教学。
