BeeMee Forest Academy IEYC theme units are based on four learning strands. Combined with the UK National EYFS Framework, which is based on holistic inquiry and game teaching methods, learning is tailored to meet individual learning and development needs of children. Through multi-cultural development and international perspective each child is prepared academically and emotionally as future global citizens.

We inhabit our surroundings alongside a myriad of small inhabitants – minibeasts that reside in the soil, beneath stones, amid plants and grass, within trees, and even within our homes. Minibeasts manifest in diverse forms and sizes, ranging from diminutive ants and elongated, wriggly worms to exquisite butterflies adorned with vibrant wings. Throughout October, the children at BeeMee Xihu Campus delved into an exploration of these fascinating minibeasts.

我们的生活环境中生活着无数的小居民——小动物，它们栖息在土壤中、石头下、草木间、树上，甚至我们的家中。小动物形态各异、大小不一，有体型矮小的蚂蚁、细长蠕动的蠕虫，也有装饰着鲜艳翅膀的精美蝴蝶。整个十月，彼一米西湖校区的孩子们都在探索这些迷人的小动物。

At this stage of development, children exhibit a natural curiosity about the world around them, often relishing the experience of handling bugs and investigating soil, sand, roots, leaves, and stones outdoors. This thematic unit 'The Brilliant Bug Ball' provided our young learners with ample opportunities to closely observe these creatures. Offering hands-on experiences to witness life cycles and minibeast behaviours constituted enchanting moments for the children, fostering positive attitudes towards the natural world and living organisms.

During the unit, the children observed minibeasts in their outdoor environment, delving into the exploration of their characteristics and behaviours. They engaged in discussions and forged agreements regarding the safe and considerate handling and care of minibeasts. The children were introduced to the captivating realm of minibeasts, drawing comparisons between them and listening to a myriad of delightful childhood stories featuring these tiny creatures.

在这一单元中，孩子们在户外环境中观察小动物，深入探索它们的特征和行为。他们就如何安全、体贴地处理和照顾小动物进行了讨论，并达成了共识。孩子们了解了小动物的迷人之处，对它们进行了比较，并聆听了无数以这些小动物为主角的有趣的童年故事。

Additionally, the children warmly welcomed new minibeast companions into the classroom, providing them with the opportunity to observe the creatures' lives and growth.

The exploration of minibeasts provided an ideal platform for the children to investigate intricate patterns in the minibeast world, exploring shapes, colours, and numbers. The children made their own counting books and delved into the realm of symmetry.

They also gained insights into the diverse habitats of minibeasts, learning about insects that could fly, live underground, dwell solitarily, or form familial groups.

The children seized numerous opportunities to acquire specific knowledge about various minibeasts. They learned about bees, understanding their modes of communication, their role in pollination, and the production of delectable honey.

Ants, with their colonies hidden from daylight, were studied, highlighting their collaborative efforts within a hive to achieve remarkable feats. This offered each class the chance to practice teamwork through engaging and challenging team games.

Culminating in a splendid conclusion, the bug-themed unit concluded with a school trip to the Hunan Agricultural University Insect Specimen Exhibit. Here, the children closely examined truly peculiar and wondrous insects not typically found in their scenic Xihu surroundings. Alongside the Insect Specimen Exhibit, the children explored displays on various soils, plants, and larger animals. The outing was a joyous occasion, with the exhibit halls resonating with the sounds of animated children discussing the marvels they had encountered.

最后，以昆虫为主题的单元活动在湖南农业大学昆虫标本展之旅中圆满结束。在这里，孩子们仔细观察了真正奇特的昆虫，这些昆虫在风景秀丽的西湖周围并不常见。除了昆虫标本展，孩子们还参观了各种土壤、植物和大型动物的展览。孩子们在展厅里兴致勃勃地讨论着他们遇到的奇闻异事，场面其乐融融。
