在哈罗重庆,我们希望学生能认识到,数学学习不仅是为了完成作业本上的作业,更是未来在实际生活中必备的技能加法、减法、乘法和除法作为数学的四大核心技能,而如何在实际生活中运用到数学技能,则是我们培养学生的重点。在四年级,我们通过不同的真实情境构建,让学生将数学技能运用其中,更真实地感受到数学在作业之外的魅力。

At Harrow Chongqing, we want our students to realise that learning Maths is not just about completing assignments in a workbook, but also about the skills that are essential for the future in real life. Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division serve as the four core skills of maths, and how to apply the maths skills in real life is the focus of our students' development. In Grade 4, we construct different real-life situations for students to put their maths skills to use and get a truer sense of what maths can be beyond homework.





在数学课堂上,我们采用建构主义教育方法。其核心思想是通过学生与环境的互动来建构知识,老师作为知识的启发者,通过提供启示性的问题或情境,充分调动学生的主动性与参与性,在独立思考中成长,在实践中构建知识。

在四年级课堂上,学生们“进入”为派对采购的情景中,用数学技能为派对做好一切准备的任务中,在合作中完成不同形式的练习与学习。

In the Mathematics classroom, we adopt a constructivist approach to education. The core idea is that knowledge is constructed through the interaction between students and the environment. The teacher acts as an inspirer of knowledge, providing stimulating questions or situations to fully mobilise students' initiative and participation, to grow in independent thinking, and to construct knowledge through practice.

 

In the Grade 4 classroom, students "enter" a party shopping scenario, use their maths skills to complete a party-ready task, and work collaboratively to complete different forms of practice and learning.





在STEAM(科学、技术、工程、艺术和数学)是近年来新兴的混合学科学习方式,走在教育前沿的哈罗重庆,格外重视STEAM的应用,并通过各种各样的项目式教学项目在学校里鼓励STEAM教学的开展,启迪学生的科学思维。

在刚刚结束的一年一度“科创周”(STEAM WEEK)上,四年级的数学课堂还特别将“E”定义为英语,以数学为基础,练习第二语言。我们利用课堂上所学到的知识制作了一张预算表,要求学生运用数学课堂上所学的技能,计算一个项目的总成本。

STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) is an emerging approach to blended learning in recent years. Harrow Chongqing, at the forefront of education, attaches particular importance to the use of STEAM and encourages STEAM teaching through a variety of project-based learning programmes in schools to stimulate students' scientific thinking.

 

During the recently concluded annual STEAM WEEK, the Grade 4 Maths class defined 'E' as English, using Maths as the basis for practising a second language. We used what we learned in class to create a budget sheet that asked students to calculate the total cost of a project using the skills they had learned in maths class.


我们一直关注数学的四大核心技能,即加法、减法、乘法和除法。在中国,这也被称为”四则运算”的一部分。在四年级,我们正在学习在真实情境中使用这些技能,因为数学不仅仅是在作业本上完成的。它是在日常生活中使用的。因此,我们在学习技能的同时,还要将这些技能运用到真实的情境中,如购物和组织活动,在这些情境中,我们必须运用许多数学技能。

We have been focusing on the 4 core skills of Mathematics, which are addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Also known as part of the mastery method in China. What we are now doing in grade 4 is we are learning to use these skills in authentic situations because Maths is not just done on worksheets. It is used in everyday life. Therefore, we are learning the skills and now we are putting these skills into authentic situations such as going shopping and organizing events where we must use many mathematical skills.


在这堂课上,我们学习了“算术”,因为我准备让学生开始学习两位数和三位数乘法。然后,他们学习了乘法,就可以用它来完成长除法,然后他们将利用所有这些技能来完成一次购物旅行的真实情境。这就是我们与传统方法的相似之处。我们在不断地积累,以掌握这门学科。

In this class, we were learning number patterns as I was preparing the students to begin their studies on double and triple digit multiplication. Then, they learn multiplication so they can use it to complete long division and then all of these skills they will use to complete an authentic situation of completing a shopping trip. This is how we have similarities to the traditional approach. We are constantly building to master the subject.

 

However, I am taking several different pedagogical approaches and combining them. In the case of our shopping trip idea, we are using a constructivist approach because students will be reflecting on their previous experiences of buying things in shops, or these days, on the phone. We take a collaborative approach by grouping the students who are going shopping for a party and it’s their job to prepare everything for the party. Then, we are using an integrative approach by combining multiple mathematical skills to complete one large project. This way, we are giving the students many different forms of learning, practice, and assessment.

Yes, in fact since your visit to the class Harrow had its annual STEAM Week and we took the opportunity to blend many different subjects together. In the case of S, science, we learned about pollution and how it affects the planet. In the case of T, Technology, and E, engineering, we learned about designing and building special garbage cans that can collect recyclable materials. However, in the case of our class, we made E for English so we could use the opportunity to work on the students’ second language. Finally, in the case of Maths, we used what we had been learning in the class to create a budget sheet, which required the students to use all the mentioned skills in your previous question to total the cost of a project such as this.
