The results of the 2023 American Mathematical Olympiad (AMO) have just been released, and our students have achieved excellent results in the competition, winning 1 Perfect Score (higher than Gold Metal), 5 Bronze Medals and 4 Honorable Mentions.
Among them, John Jiang from Year 5 won the Perfect Score (ranked 1st in the world)! This not only is a recognition of his efforts and diligence, but also adds a brilliant glow to our school.
How does VPA's math class
contribute to the success
of our children?
At VPA, we follow the national curriculum with the textbooks from Beijing Normal University Press, integrate elements from the Singaporean mathematics curriculum, along with other international programs. Additionally, we incorporate the principles of IB cirriculum, creating our own unique curriculum.
Our team also adjusts the teaching plans based on students' actual learning situations and the integration with the inquiry-based curriculum, achieving differentiated and personalized teaching.
We seamlessly integrate mathematics into our IB teaching, enhancing children's depth in inquiry and critical thinking.
Integrating Geometry with Chinese Culture

Through a variety of fun activities to reinforce children's interest in math. Their teamwork and hands-on skills are also developed in the process.
Integrating Mathematics with Astronomy
Most importantly, we integrate with real-life situations, allowing children to learn in authentic contexts and step outside the classroom.
Exploring Mathematics in Nature
When exploring the central idea of「The Choices People Make Affect Their Well-being」, our year 2 students underwent a profound learning process.
Initially, they gained an understanding of the significance of currency and how to use it. The curriculum then extended to the purchase of food using money, further imparting knowledge related to dietary health.
Finally, they collectively organized a joyful shopping street, crafting a business plan that included customer analysis, competitive analysis, and sales strategies. This approach endowed ordinary arithmetic operations with a more three-dimensional significance, making learning more closely aligned with real-life scenarios.
In addition to regular math class, we offer a diverse range of math enrichment classes during after school activites. Our teachers will invite students who have a special interest in math to join these classes, preparing them for international mathematics competitions.
Our preparation focuses on upcoming competitions such as the American Mathematics Olympiad (AMO) and the Math Kangaroo competition in April.
In these math competitions, students are required to apply creative thinking to solve more profound and abstract mathematical problems. This not only challenges their cognitive frameworks but also cultivates their problem-solving abilities.
We will continue to provide students with more relevant resources, encouraging them to constantly challenge themselves and ignite a greater interest in math and learning in general. We also hope that they will achieve even more remarkable accomplishments in the field of mathematics in the future.
