This week we went on our third gallery exhibition visit of the academic year.
Three Shadows Photography Art Centre was China’s first independent organization specializing in contemporary art photography upon its founding. Founded in 2007, Three Shadows has become a national premiere platform for the presentation, promotion, discovery, and international exchange of high-caliber photography.
Three Shadows is comprised of two spaces, north and south: one is situated in Beijing, while the other is located in Xiamen, China. The Xiamen location with 3600 square meters of space, including an exhibition hall, +3 Gallery, image production facilities, a vast library, an educational program, an art book store, and a cafe.
The aim of the trip was for students to experience an exhibition of Asian contemporary art photography. The themes from the exhibition ranged from identity to environmental and social challenges. These themes connect with our transdisciplinary units that are concerned with raising environmental awareness.
The photography exhibition also used several different art presentation methods that students may find inspiring when they set up exhibitions and installations.
The purpose of regular exhibition trips is to give students an overview of the vibrant art scene that Xiamen has to offer. Visiting art galleries is a staple of art education and by organizing these visits students gain exposure to a range of different art-making methods, conceptual ideas, and visual problem-solving.
The students made memories with their friends and visited another hub of creativity in their local area. We are looking forward to more idea-generating opportunities through experiential learning.
Happy New Year of the Dragon.
