On 5 March 2024, Dr Poon Kin-keung, Assistant Professor of the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology and Head of the Bachelor of Secondary Education (Hons) - Mathematical Sciences Section of The Hong Kong University of Education, led a group of 24 undergraduates to ASJ to visit the school and exchange teaching experience and teaching methods with teachers of the secondary div of the ASJ, and to form a closed loop from knowing to doing in the communication.
The HKIEd students visited the school. ASJ Assistant Principal Zou Ting shared and introduced the school's background, overall development, school characteristics, student activities, exchanges and co-operation, etc. She hoped that the HKIEd students could strengthen their exchanges and co-operation with the ASJ teachers, and create more opportunities for exchanges and activities for the students.
During the exchange session, the two sides had a brainstorming session on education methodology. The students from The Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd) shared their views on "STEM in Sextant", "Difference of Squares" and "The Secrets of Mathematics within the Password" respectively. Teachers from ASJ Secondary Section shared their views on "STEM in Sextant", "Difference of Squares" and "The Secrets of Mathematics within the Password" respectively, while teachers from ASJ Secondary Section shared their own teaching experience, gave suggestions and discussed with the students on how to incorporate new teaching methods into the classroom.
In terms of teaching design, every teacher will experience from the initial simple imitation to have their own understanding and ideas, start to polish their teaching, practise the basic teaching skills and at the same time, innovate the teaching methods, actively create problematic scenarios, carry out exploratory teaching, inspire students to think about the problem from a different perspective, so as to exercise the students' thinking ability. During the exchanges between the students of The Hong Kong University of Education and the ASJ teachers, the thinking of returning the classroom to its essence also brought a lot of inspiration to the ASJ teachers.
