How to give concrete expression to a moment of inspiration in your mind? ASJ-Foshan encourages students to express their emotions and thoughts of the moment through art creation, using colors, lines, musical notes, and dance to convey deep inner feelings, and even a piece of clay can carry our spiritual values and turn into a unique and functional work of art.
The history and culture of Foshan are passed down and carried forward in this humble pottery clay and endless kiln fire, making it a famous "pottery capital of the south".As a Hong Kong and Macao students school in this land, ASJers is also experiencing Chinese traditional crafts through Pottery Course, cultivating innovative thinking and aesthetic ability through hands-on practice.
This is a "learn by doing" and "learn by having fun" experiential class that includes many different themes and projects, such as tableware, vases, decorations, animals, plants and daily ceramic works.
Students will learn step by step how to use various tools and equipment, and learn how to make clay sculptures, and how to complete the firing into ceramic works in the kiln.
For those of students who have had very little contact with clay, it is not easy to produce a satisfactory piece of work. First of all, they need to understand its basic characteristics and production techniques, and learn how to "tame" the soft, moist clay in their hands.
"Teacher, I need help!"
"Teacher, I can't pinch the shape I want!"
"Teacher, why is my clay getting dry and hard?"
In class, we can always hear the students calling out to the teacher one after another.
Pottery clay has good plasticity as well as disadvantages such as drying and cracking easily. Pottery teacher will provide step-by-step instructions to ensure that the students are progressing throughout the process. These skills may seem simple, but they are the key to making satisfactory works. Only by mastering these skills can the students better manage the clay and realize their creativity and ideas.
Glazing is another challenging and interesting part of the ceramic production process, where students need to show their unique creativity to create works that are both practical and of artistic value. The teacher will not ask the students to make the same work as the template, but encourages them to give full play to their imagination and use the paint to give the ceramic embryo a colorful soul.
Because of this, we can often see all kinds of works in the display area, like dancing lions in macaroon colors, abstract ink painting plates, peculiarly shaped cups, and even artistic creations whose shapes cannot be seen ......
"As a teacher, it is a great joy to feel the growth of the students in each class, whether it is an improvement in skill or a release of creativity." Mr. Lee said, "As I see students find ways to express their emotions and ideas through pottery, I also have a deep awareness of the importance of art education, which is not only about developing skills, but also about discovering oneself and shaping one's personality."
"In class, I feel like an artist, and with clay in my hands it's like I have unlimited creative power." Du from G8 always finds new inspiration in pottery class and enjoys the opportunity the course brings him to talk to his soul.
ASJ-Foshan is committed to providing students with a diverse learning experience and a revolving educational ecosystem comprised of a Cultivation Curriculum, an Academic curriculum, and a Study Curriculum. Ceramics, as a cultivation curriculum, Pottery Course allows students to develop a deeper understanding of traditional ceramic craftsmanship while developing themselves through the cultivation of character, the transmission of Chinese culture, and the establishment of a connection to the real world.
The interaction and communication with the students in pottery class is one of my favorite parts of the class; it is a heartfelt experience to be able to share my passion for pottery and discuss the joys of creating art with them. On the stage of pottery, every student is a unique artist, weaving their own story with their hands. May you discover endless creativity and nurture inner fortitude and patience as you draw inspiration from the clay. Remember that pottery is not only a transmission of skills, but also a conversation of the heart. May each of your works be a journey of self-discovery, and each creation a marvelous flow of inspiration.
The Pottery Course has opened the door to a world of creativity for me. By kneading clay with my own hands and shaping it using a chakra wheel, I experienced a wonderful fusion of arts and crafts. It is not only the passing on of skills, but also the honing of patience and concentration. Each class is a collision of ideas and senses that gives me a deep sense of the joy of creation. The process of pottery has taught me flexibility in problem solving and developed sensitivity to detail. Each piece is a projection of the mind, allowing me to discover the power of creativity and feel the depth and breadth of self-expression.
Participating in Pottery Course has been a highlight of my life. Handmade pottery not only allows me to learn practical skills, but it is also a profound channel to release my emotions. Each piece of clay becomes a medium of expression for my emotions, and each work is a unique projection of my inner world. As if I am in the sea of art, I can feel the boundless creativity and freedom. Each production was like a spiritual journey, leading me through the ups and downs of emotions and exploring my inner creative potential. This course not only opened up my artistic horizons, but also profoundly connected my mind to my craft, allowing me to find unique fulfillment in my creations.
At the beginning of the pottery course I thought it would be fun to knead clay and that's it, but I didn't realize pottery could be so much fun. The wheel went round and round, and in a while I had shaped my own little piece of work, which felt super accomplished. Moreover, this class was not just about playing, but also learning a lot of things. The teacher taught us how to use the wheel and how to handle the clay, and I felt that my craftsmanship had really improved. Also, everyone's work was different and had their own character, which felt pretty cool. One of my favorite things about the class was that it was really relaxing. It's so fun to be completely immersed in the creative process and forget about other worries. The pottery course is really a place that I look forward to and is full of creativity!
