The term AP stands for Advanced Placement, most commonly available in American high schools and American International High Schools. It offers exceptional students the opportunity to earn college credits while still in high school and is considered an "Elite Course". The program is run by the College Board and has been available in the United States for over 50 years. AP credits are recognized by nearly 5,000 universities in 57 countries, including prestigious universities and colleges like Harvard, Yale, Cambridge, and Oxford. They are used as a reference in the college admissions process. Students who take AP courses have ‘stand out’ applications because the courses are rigorous and show students’ dedication and motivation to succeed. Students taking AP courses can potentially use their scores to support scholarship applications, which may reduce their study costs.

At QISS, we believe in empowering our students to become life-ready leaders and encourage collaboration and communication with peers and teachers. When selecting an AP course at QISS, students will have support and guidance from Mr. Adam Arthur, our College Counsellor, Mr Adam Biwan, our AP Co-ordinator, and all of our talented and dedicated AP teachers.

It is important that students have a sense of planning and make preparations early. Students should choose courses that align with their interests, future goals, and potential study direction. For instance, if they plan to study science and engineering, they should focus on choosing subjects in that area. We also recommend our students keep the following in mind: Consider what subjects QISS offers to ensure adequate support will be provided, and ensure their course selection supports their well-being and general balance, e.g., something creative, balanced with something more academic. This is especially important as universities prefer students to be well-rounded and focus on holistic development rather than just academics.
