This week, the students enjoyed reviewing all they've learned through fun activities in preparation for the student-led conference. They sorted big and small animals, played doctor, practiced fine motor skills by delicately placing watermelon seeds with cotton buds, threaded beads on fuzzy wires, and sorted a rainbow of colors using tweezers. Their enthusiasm and dedication shone through as they eagerly showcased their newfound knowledge and skills during the conference. From sorting animals to imaginative play and intricate fine motor activities, they've been learning, growing, and delighting in every moment of discovery!

K1

Erin Wang and Sati Tadevosyan

This week, we hosted our student-led conference, giving children an enjoyable opportunity to demonstrate their learning experiences at kindergarten. During our inquiry sessions, we explored objects that either float or sink in water, and we also compared modern and traditional modes of transportation. In mathematics, our focus centered on addition within 5 and various measurement concepts. In literacy, we emphasized the letter sound "M" and learned more opposite words such as float/sink, hard/soft, before/after, stand/sit.

Our Inquiry highlight has been completing our community dioramas in time for our Student-Led Conferences. Students have had a wonderful time making residential buildings, police stations, hospitals, schools and other community structures that support people living in the surrounding homes. Students have learned about the important role that community helpers play in providing us with essential services. They also learned about the importance of green spaces such as parks and loved making bushes and trees for areas.

K3

Dean Fletes and Anuschka Etsebeth

During this week, the students delighted in revisiting their knowledge through engaging activities as part of the preparation for the student-led conference. K3 ventured out to the sand pit where students had to fill their cups to various levels as indicated by the cards which read 'full', 'half full', 'half empty', 'nearly empty', 'empty', and 'nearly full'. This was followed by a writing exercise wherein students were given a bottle filled with assorted objects, glitter, and water. They were asked to shake the bottle and write down their observations, enhancing their phonetic spelling skills. We concluded the week by creating flowerpots crafted from cardboard. These were given at the end of the student-led conference as tokens of appreciation to parents.

K2 (Yani Wang)

This week in our K2 German class we learned about shapes, mainly about circles, triangles, squares and rectangles. After understanding the characteristics of each shape, we try to draw different shapes ourselves, or create paintings based on specific shapes. For example, using circles, some students drew the sun, some drew flowers, some drew faces, etc.

This week’s theme is also about careers. We used riddles to learn about the characteristics of various professions. The pictures and text descriptions of people in different professions are categorized.

K3 (Yani Wang)

This week our K3 German class learned a famous German children's song "Period, period, comma, line". While learning to sing songs, we also tried to draw the pictures that appeared in the songs ourselves. Students drew children, homeless people, kittens and adults.

This week we also learned two new letters, M and N. Including the upper and lower case of these two letters, the spelling of the syllables between them, such as Ma, Ni, Ne, etc.
