School advancement has always been a top concern for parents. Whether it's transitioning from elementary to middle school, middle to high school, or high school to university, each advancement marks a significant turning point in a student’s academic journey. Many parents might assume that if their child has excelled academically before transitioning, they will naturally continue to excel afterward. However, the reality often differs from expectations. After moving to a new academic level, many students experience a noticeable decline in performance and may even encounter significant adaptation challenges.



It's common to see cases where students struggle to adjust due to inadequate attention to transition. The main challenges they face include:


Difficulty Adapting to A New Environment:Many students, upon entering a new academic stage, find themselves in unfamiliar surroundings with new teachers and classmates, which can cause feelings of discomfort, anxiety, and even resistance.

Difficulty Adapting to A New Way of Thinking:  As students progress to higher academic stages, they must adapt to more complex and independent learning methods. However, if they continue to rely on previous learning methods and thinking patterns, they may struggle with the new academic challenges.

K3-G1 Transition Program

Smooth Adjustment to Primary School Life






The transition from kindergarten to primary school is the first major turning point in a child's education journey. To help our K3 students successfully adapt to primary school life, we have designed a comprehensive kindergarten-to-primary school transition program. Through this program, our K3 students will have multiple teaching experiences in lower-grade classrooms and interact with Grade 1 teachers, allowing them to familiarize themselves with their future learning environment before entering Grade 1.

Teacher-Student Interaction: Grade 1 teachers regularly visit K3 classrooms to interact with students, getting to know their language development, personalities, and behavioral traits. These interactions not only help teachers better prepare for the new school year but also foster emotional anticipation for primary school life among the students.

Parental Involvement: We understand that parental support is crucial during the transition process. Through various parent-involved activities, parents can gain an early understanding of the primary school learning model and requirements, enabling them to better support their child’s transition.




G5-G6 Transition Program

Confidence to Meet New Challenges






As children enter higher grades, the learning model shifts from a single-classroom system to a rotating class system, and the academic content becomes more challenging and extensive. This transition often causes concern among parents, as children need not only to cope with the increased academic demands but also to be mentally prepared. To help students transition smoothly and provide parents with confidence in their child’s future, Harrow Hengqin has launched a comprehensive G5-G6 transition program.

Parent Briefings: We regularly hold parent briefings hosted by the Heads of Lower and Upper Schools, detailing the academic expectations and anticipated performance for Grade 6 students. These meetings help parents better understand the changes their children will face and provide practical guidance and advice.

Orientation Courses: The Head of Upper School offers orientation courses to help students familiarize themselves with the new academic stage’s requirements and gradually adapt to the upper school learning environment.

Experience Courses: A three-month experience program covers all core upper school subjects, including English, Chinese, Mathematics, Science, Drama, and Art & Design. These courses allow Grade 5 students to experience the pace of Grade 6 learning in advance and understand the teaching styles of various subject teachers.

Transition Day Activities: During Transition Day, students interact with upper-grade student ambassadors and housemasters, participate in assemblies, and share meals. This helps them adapt to the new environment and develop social skills and independence in different settings.

Pastoral Transition Courses: Our housemasters and tutor teams provide specialized pastoral transition courses to help students prepare mentally for the new academic stage, fostering a more mature mindset and behavior.

Comprehensive Support: Throughout the transition process, students receive full support from housemasters, the tutor team, and upper-grade student leaders, ensuring they can quickly adapt at the start of the new school year and alleviate concerns about academic advancement.

As students enter the IGCSE stage, they face complex subject choices and need to prepare for future A-Level courses and university applications. To address this, we have tailored a special transition program for Grade 8 students and their parents.

Course Selection Guidance: We provide personalized course selection advice to each student, helping them choose the most suitable IGCSE subjects based on their interests and abilities.
