←Swipe for English Version←
In a child’s development, the power of education extends far beyond the walls of the school. Family and community education have a profound impact that can even rival formal schooling. It is only when these three pillars—school, family, and society—are closely connected and work in unison that a comprehensive educational system can be established, supporting the all-around growth of children.
Harrow Hengqin deeply understands this and upholds a "Trinity" education philosophy. We are not only committed to providing high-quality classroom teaching but also to connecting with families and the broader community, working together in the journey of a child's growth. Through strong partnerships between school and home, and active community engagement, Harrow Hengqin creates a nurturing and inspiring learning environment where students thrive academically while also developing emotionally, creatively, and in character.
In the 2023-2024 academic year,
we have achieved significant
milestones in the following key areas:
Empowering Parents
with Educational Insights
As one of the key projects of Harrow Hengqin's school-home collaboration, the Parent Academy has been warmly received by parents since its launch in the 2022-2023 school year. This initiative aims to enhance parents’ understanding of Harrow's educational philosophy through a series of educational courses and to guide them on how to apply these principles in the home to support their children's education. Aligning school and home values and strategies is crucial for a child’s development. We believe that when teachers and parents learn together and lead by example, we can truly realize the vision of a learning community. Upon completing the required credits, parents graduate from the Parent Academy and receive honorary recognition from the school.
These courses cover topics such as language and reading development, interdisciplinary and innovative teaching, student psychological and emotional development, and arts and music education, all designed to help parents better support their children's holistic growth. After each session, parents are invited to complete a satisfaction survey, which has shown an impressive average satisfaction rate of 98.5%. Among the participants, 24 parents successfully met the learning objectives and received their graduation certificates.
This project not only deepens parents' understanding of the school’s educational philosophy but also addresses their urgent need for effective teaching methods through workshops thoughtfully designed by teachers. For example, Ferdi Victor, Head of the Creative Arts Group and Drama Teacher, led a workshop on "Drama in Education," helping parents understand the profound significance of drama education and experience firsthand the learning process their children undergo in class. These activities have strengthened parental support and involvement in their children's education, fostering their all-around development.
Harnessing Community Power
for Collaborative Education
Friends of Harrow (FoH) is a group composed of parents and staff, aimed at strengthening the connection between home and school to promote students' overall development. Every parent, guardian, and staff member at Harrow Hengqin is a member of FoH. Through this platform, parents, guardians, and staff can leverage their unique talents and professional expertise to contribute to the school community. This collaboration not only provides additional learning opportunities for students but also enhances the cohesion and vibrancy of the Harrow Hengqin family. Moreover, the efforts of FoH help promote Harrow Hengqin’s vision and core values within the local community.
For instance, during the school's Reading Week, we invited Ms. Chen Ling-Yun, a member of FoH, to give a talk on "Growth Mindset" to parents. Ms. Chen, the mother of Chen-Jun Shuai from Class 6A, is also the Education Director of FoH. She holds a master’s degree in Management and Applied Psychology and is a certified lecturer at the Institute of Happiness Research. With years of experience at China’s largest educational charity, the Adream Foundation, and in promoting CPR training in Shenzhen, she hopes to create a positive and loving Harrow community through such activities. Her talk aimed to help parents cultivate a growth mindset environment at home, avoiding the pitfalls of inefficient competition, and encouraging children to embrace challenges, learn from mistakes, and find joy in perseverance. This not only helps children succeed now but also prepares them to stand out in an unpredictable future.
Strengthening
School-Home Connections
Over the past year, the FoH Committee and class representatives have organized a series of events, including a Halloween Costume Show, Teacher Appreciation Banquet, and the Annual Gala. These activities have not only greatly enriched the campus life of students and parents but also provided parents with opportunities to showcase their talents and passions. At the Teacher Appreciation Banquet, parents became culinary ambassadors, presenting a feast of Chinese delicacies to teachers from around the world. This not only deepened the emotional bonds between teachers and parents but also allowed teachers to feel the warmth and appreciation of the parent community.
Harrow Hengqin, through the Parent Academy, Friends of Harrow, and a variety of engaging events, has successfully strengthened the relationship between school and home, promoting the all-around development of students. The Parent Academy’s comprehensive courses have given parents a deeper understanding of the school’s educational philosophy; the FoH platform has effectively enhanced communication between home and school, ensuring the well-being and success of our students; and the diverse range of school-home activities has created more opportunities for interaction and connection among students, parents, and teachers, fostering a caring and inspiring environment for growth. Looking ahead, we will continue to deepen our school-home collaboration, paving the way for an even brighter future for our children.
