In today's rapidly evolving digital world, the importance of Computer Science cannot be overstated. From powering everyday technologies to driving groundbreaking innovations, computer science equips students with the skills to understand, shape, and lead in a technology-driven society. At LEH Foshan, we believe in providing our students with the tools and opportunities to thrive in this dynamic landscape, preparing them not just for their future studies, but for future careers in digital technology, engineering, and beyond.
Computer Science is taught throughout the whole school at LEH Foshan. This article will primarily focus on the Secondary School curriculum.
In Secondary School, the Computer Science Department is part of the Creative Arts Faculty alongside Art and Design, and Design & Technology. Over the past few years, the Computer Science programme at LEH Foshan has undergone significant development. With new additions to the teaching staff and upgraded facilities, we are committed to delivering a well-rounded and engaging learning experience for our students.
This is a very exciting time for our faculty as we continue to grow and expand our curriculum, extra-curricular programme and resources. As a faculty, we are working together to create shared projects that combine Computer Science with Design and Technology. This provides our students with real life industry problems and solutions and gives them exposure to exciting career opportunities.

Comprehensive
Curriculum
for All Levels
Our Computer Science Curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum and adapted to meet our students’ learning needs. The curriculum in Secondary School provides students with a comprehensive understanding of computer science, balancing theory with practical experience. Students engage in topics ranging from algorithms and programming to data structures, cybersecurity, and AI. Project-based learning and an emphasis on questioning help develop technical skills, critical thinking, teamwork, and communication—essential for success in higher education and the workplace.
Key Stage 3:
Students build on their foundational knowledge and learn about advanced computer systems, such as networks and robotics. They also study algorithms in greater depth and practice writing programs using text-based programming languages.
IGCSE, Key Stage 4:
At this stage, students take on the IGCSE Computer Science course, delving into computer systems, software development, data representation, and programming paradigms.
A Level, Sixth Form:
Students study A Level Computer Science, covering topics like data structures, databases, and the theoretical foundations of computer science, while also exploring more specialized subjects like formal methods and complexity theory.
State-of-the-Art
Facilities
Our facilities have expanded to meet the growing needs of the Computer Science programme. Apart from two dedicated computer science classrooms, we have established a spacious E-Sports room, which serves dual purposes for gaming and classroom activities, and provides an exciting and dynamic environment for students to explore computer science concepts in a practical setting.
Our new Computer Suite, which has fast processing speeds, large screens for design work and the full Adobe Creative Suite facilitates industry standard approaches for our students preparing them for University.
Extracurricular
Hands-on Opportunities
VEX Robotics:
Led by Mr Reveley, our VEX Robotics programme introduces KS3 students to robotics through lessons and after-school activities. Students develop coding, engineering, and communication skills and work towards participating in competitions like the VEX IQ Challenge (Asia).
E-Sports:
Led by Ms Davy, the E-Sports programme challenges students to think critically, solve problems, and work as a team. It promotes a sense of belonging and enhances communication skills, with pathways to careers in the gaming and technology industries. LEH Foshan is working with Daigon and COBIS to participate in the upcoming Esports competition, starting in November 2024.
BEBRAS Computational Thinking Competition:
All students in KS3, KS4, and KS5 will participate in the BEBRAS competition in collaboration with the University of Oxford, which challenges students to solve problems and develop logical thinking skills.
Integrated Learning:
Cross-Disciplinary
Projects
Design & Technology (DT) and Computer Science (CS) are working in partnership to provide students with a rich, integrated learning experience. Students develop technical and creative skills, preparing them for careers in engineering, product design, and software development.
Problem-solving and computational thinking are required in both DT and CS, as students need to identify problems and come up with practical solutions. Teaching students algorithmic thinking, logic, and structured thinking helps them approach challenges they will encounter in both subjects. DT and CS have decided to work on a project together, KS3 students will be involved in building a physical product (a car) in DT, and in CS students will work on the software to control the car.
Supporting All Learners
in Computer Science
Our Computer Science department is committed to ensuring that Computer Science is engaging and accessible for all students. We implement interactive, hands-on lessons that involve robotics and coding, fostering collaboration and teamwork. A scaffolded and differentiated approach challenges both beginners and advanced students.
To support students with limited prior exposure, we provide clear, step-by-step instructions, interactive tools, and visual aids to ease them into programming, algorithms, and digital literacy. Peer learning opportunities, collaborative projects, and extra support sessions help students gain confidence. Resources are also accessible on Teams at any time.
Students learn flowchart logic and then explore real-world applications in the canteen with automated systems
Preparing for the Future:
Pathways and Goals
The Computer Science curriculum at LEH Foshan is crafted to prepare students interested in pursuing Computer Science for university and future careers by focusing on both technical and soft skills. Students gain a solid foundation in programming, data structures, algorithms, and emerging fields like AI and cybersecurity. They also develop problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills through collaborative projects and practical activities. Our aim is to empower students with the confidence and skills they need to excel in their future studies and careers.
Looking Ahead…
The Computer Science programme at LEH Foshan is dedicated to providing high-quality, forward-thinking education that prepares our students for the digital future. We offer opportnities for students to explore new technologies, engage in real-world problem-solving, and develop essential skills for success. Our commitment is to empower every student to thrive in an ever-evolving technological landscape and to be ready for future academic and career challenges.
Please stay tuned for further updates on our Prep School Computer Science & ICT programme and how we use technology to inspire creativity in our young students.
