With the wave of digitalisation sweeping across the world, every advancement in technology is having a profound impact on our future. Tianjin Farragut School, as a cradle of international talents, has always been at the forefront of educational innovation. October 28th, we hosted the first lecture of Next-Gen Series, and had the honour of inviting Wang Zhi, Editor-in-Chief of Low Altitude Economic Resource Network, to speak on the topic of Low-Altitude Flying Aircraft and Application Scenarios, opening up an in-depth dialogue on technology and the future.

讲座伊始,王智老师介绍了航空器的基本概念,阐释了它们在空中飞行的功能和特点,并辅以视频资料,使学生对航空器有了直观的认识。进一步地,他探讨了低空飞行航空器在物流、农业、救援等多个领域的应用场景,强调了其活动性质的重要性,并讨论了市场和付费模式。王智老师还详细介绍低空飞行领域的进展,包括燕郊银行的无人机广告案例,无人机的生产许可证和市场情况,为同学们描绘了行业的当前面貌。
At the beginning of lecture, Wang Zhi introduced the basic concept of aircrafts, explained their functions and characteristics of flying in the air, and supplemented with videos to give students a visual understanding of aircrafts. Further, he explored the application scenarios of low altitude flying aircraft in various fields such as logistics, agriculture and rescue, emphasised the importance of participation, and discussed the market and payment models. Wang Zhi also detailed advances in the field of low altitude flying, including a case study of drone advertising at Yanjiao Bank, production licences for drones and its market situation, painting a picture of the current face of the industry for students.

In terms of technical characteristics, Wang Zhi discussed the use of composite materials, energy efficiency and flight capabilities of drones. He analysed the technological routes of drones, including the characteristics of vertical take-off and landing, fixed-wing and multi-rotor drones. In terms of policy and management, Wang Zhi discussed the regulations and airspace management of low altitude flying aircraft, as well as flight altitude restrictions, emphasising the importance of these factors to the development of the industry. Students were provided with an international perspective by comparing the differences between different countries in the field of low-altitude flight, including the number of airports, the number of aircraft and market development.

Looking to the future, Wang Zhi raised the emerging concepts of urban air transport and three-dimensional transport. Meanwhile, the issue of safety was something he particularly emphasised. Wang Zhi discussed the technical challenges and accident risks of low-flying aircraft, and also touched on the issues of battery energy density and environmental protection, as well as the application of new energy sources in aircraft. He explored how technology can contribute to the sustainable development of the low-altitude economy. In the end, Wang Zhi summarised the many aspects of low altitude flying aircraft and predicted their development trends over the next three to five years, providing students with a comprehensive and in-depth insight into the industry.

在问答环节,王智老师邀请了我校无人机执照持有者,来自Senior年级的Michael同学分享他的感受。Michael同学表达了对无人机产业的浓厚兴趣,并提到无人机的多样化应用,如消防救援、勘探勘察、森林运输等,显著提升了运输效率。另外,他还提到了飞行高度限制和行业规划的重要性,以及在实际操作中需要考虑的地面站导航点设计和行业规范。Michael同学的学习和操作经验,展示了年轻一代对无人机技术的专业与热忱。
During the Q&A session, Wang Zhi invited our UAV licence holder, Michael from Senior Grade, to share his feelings. Michael expressed his interest in the industry and mentioned the diverse applications of drones, such as firefighting and rescue, exploration and surveying, and forest transport, which have significantly improved transport efficiency. In addition, he mentioned the importance of flight altitude limitation and industry planning, as well as ground station navigation point design and industry regulations that need to be considered in actual operation. Michael's learning and operational experience demonstrated the enthusiasm and professionalism of the younger generation towards drone technology.

Like a quantum leap of thought, it pushed the students' cognition to a brand new plateau. In the future, Tianjin Farragut School will continue to organise the Next-Gen lecture series to further stimulate the enthusiasm for academic exploration and expand the boundaries of scientific and technological horizons.
