LEH Foshan is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Aleesa, one of our talented Year 13 students who joined us in August 2023 with an international background. An aspiring psychologist, Aleesa has received offers from five prestigious universities worldwide, including the University of Amsterdam, ranked 8th globally in the QS World University Subject Rankings 2024 for Psychology. Her other offers include Leiden University, the University of Nottingham, Loughborough University, and UCAM Catholic University of Murcia in Spain.
“Receiving these offers felt like a mix of excitement and relief,” Aleesa shared. “It’s incredibly motivating to see my efforts recognised, and it reaffirms my decision to pursue psychology.”
Recently, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Aleesa to delve into her inspiring learning journey. Through her story, we hope to share insights that motivate and encourage others to pursue their passions.
Academic Pathway to Success
Aleesa’s academic path showcases her dedication and strategic planning. She chose A Level Geography, Maths, and Biology to align with her aspirations to study psychology. “Geography fascinates me because it connects global systems with human behaviour, which aligns with my interest in psychology. Biology provides insights into the scientific foundation of life and human anatomy, and Maths challenges me to think logically and analytically, which is essential for psychology research,” she explained.
Balancing university applications with rigorous coursework and extracurricular activities was no easy task, but Aleesa managed it successfully. She credits the support from teachers and university counsellors for helping her navigate the process. “They gave me personalised advice for my personal statement, helped me stay organised with deadlines, and always encouraged me when I felt overwhelmed. Their guidance made the process manageable and less stressful.”
Aleesa’s hard work and focus paid off, as evidenced by her offers from top global universities. “These offers are the culmination of my efforts over the past two years and give me a sense of accomplishment,” Aleesa added.
A Rich and Fulfilling School Life
Aleesa’s time at LEH Foshan has been enriched by her active involvement in leadership and community-building activities. As a House Captain, she has played a pivotal role in fostering school spirit and mentoring younger students. “I love fostering a sense of teamwork and supporting others. They challenge me to grow as a leader and develop skills that I’ll carry with me into university and beyond,” she shared.
Beyond her leadership roles, Aleesa has organised assemblies, mentored Prep students, and participated in meaningful extracurricular activities such as the Shining Stars Charity ECA. Her dedication to these activities highlights her commitment to making a positive impact within the school community.
What stands out to Aleesa is the collaborative and supportive atmosphere at LEH Foshan. “My favourite thing about studying at LEH Foshan is the strong sense of community,” she explained. “The school offers so many opportunities to grow academically and personally. The teachers are incredibly supportive, and the students are equally driven, which creates an inspiring environment where everyone encourages each other to succeed.”
Development Through Sports
Aleesa’s achievements in sports are a source of great pride. In school, she is the captain of multiple sports teams—basketball, rugby, and volleyball—and she has demonstrated exceptional leadership and teamwork skills. “Within school, I feel proud to captain multiple sports teams and share my knowledge and skills with other upcoming athletes, as well as learning from others myself. I hope to encourage other girls in school to participate in sport not just to compete but to have fun!” she enthused.
Recently, Aleesa competed nationally for China’s Touch Rugby team, earning selection for the Asia Pacific Youth Touch Cup. She had also led her rugby team to become the national touch rugby champions of China in previous years. “Sports have always been important in my life since I was a child,” she said. “I’m extremely honoured to be competing nationally for the China Touch Rugby team, which has taught me discipline, resilience, and teamwork.”
Aleesa’s involvement in sports has not only honed her athletic abilities but also instilled valuable life skills that she will carry forward into her future endeavours.
Reflecting on her Sixth Form experience, Aleesa expressed gratitude for the opportunities she’s had to grow academically, athletically, and personally. “The most rewarding aspect has been the sense of independence and self-discovery I’ve gained. Sixth Form challenged me to take ownership of my learning, set my own goals, and push myself beyond what I thought I was capable of. It’s been a time of growth where I’ve not only developed academically and athletically but also gained a clearer understanding of who I am and what I want to achieve in the future. I believe LEH has helped me grow as a young adult ready to enter university life,” she reflected.
Aleesa’s story exemplifies the supportive and enriching environment at LEH Foshan, where students are empowered to excel academically, develop as leaders, and grow personally. We wish Aleesa and all our Sixth Formers every success as they continue their journeys toward bright and promising futures.
