LEH Foshan is delighted to introduce Mr Matthew Slade, who joined our Prep School team as a Prep Teacher in October 2024. With over 20 years of experience in primary education across six countries, Mr Slade brings a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and a truly global perspective to our vibrant community.
Mr Slade joined the LEH Foshan team on Halloween Week, kicking off with a fun, Halloween-themed lesson!
We recently sat down with Mr Slade to learn more about his experience, teaching approach, and what inspires him as an educator.
with a Global Perspective
Mr Slade’s career in primary education was sparked by a deep passion for shaping young minds and fostering a lifelong love for learning. His teaching journey has taken him to schools in the UK, China, Myanmar, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Egypt, and South Korea, each experience enriching his perspective and enhancing his adaptability as an educator.
I was inspired to join LEH Foshan because of its strong emphasis on academic excellence and holistic development. What excites me most is the opportunity to contribute to a vibrant learning community. My experience so far has been both welcoming and inspiring.
In just two months, Mr Slade has already embraced the LEH Foshan ethos and is making meaningful connections with students and colleagues alike.
Student-Centered Approach
Known for his collaborative and student-centered teaching style, Mr Slade thrives on fostering curiosity and critical thinking in his students. He plans to implement project-based learning and hands-on activities with his Year 5 class, ensuring an engaging and dynamic learning environment.
My goal by the end of the school year is to achieve significant academic progress, foster resilience in my students, and cultivate a positive classroom environment where everyone feels valued.
His approach aligns perfectly with LEH Foshan’s mission to nurture both academic success and personal growth.
With extensive expertise in delivering the English National Curriculum, Mr Slade is particularly skilled at supporting English as a Second Language (EAL) learners. He employs a variety of strategies, including visual aids, interactive activities, and peer collaboration, to ensure all students feel confident and engaged.
I focus on building vocabulary through context and practical usage, which helps students feel connected to what they are learning.
Outside of teaching, Mr Slade’s passions for reading, travel, hiking, and exploring new cultures have taken him to an impressive 72 countries. Whether immersing himself in new cuisines or trekking through breathtaking landscapes, he brings these rich global experiences into his teaching, fostering cultural awareness and broadening his students’ horizons.
As Mr Slade continues to settle into the LEH Foshan Prep School community, his enthusiasm and dedication are already leaving a lasting impression. His unique blend of experience, innovative teaching methods, and global outlook make him an invaluable addition to the LEH Foshan team.
We are excited to see Mr Slade’s contributions to the growth and success of our students throughout this academic year and beyond.
