of DSE English Speaking
On 11 February, the ASJ Prestigious Tutor Teaching Studio successfully held its first English teaching open class of 2025. Mr Samuel KAM, the Executive Principal of ASJ (Dongguan) and the host of the English teaching studio, delivered an impressive DSE English speaking lesson for Grade 12 students. The lesson was observed by English teachers from three ASJ schools.
2月11日,暨大港澳子弟学校高中英语名师工作室成功举办了新年首场英语教学公开课交流活动。东莞暨大港澳子弟学校执行校长、ASJ高中英语名师工作室主持人金礼贤先生为“一门三校”英语教师展示了一节精彩的DSE高三英语口语综合课。
The event comprised three parts: a pre-lesson observation conference, a lesson demonstration, and a post-lesson observation feedback session.
Before the lesson, Principal KAM explained his teaching approach and the rationale behind the lesson design to the observing teachers. The aim was to enhance students' speaking skills, encourage independent learning through a "flipped classroom" model, and deepen their understanding of the topic. The lesson focused on a common DSE English exam topic: "cultural heritage protection." Principal KAM utilised various teaching resources, such as DSE speaking exam materials, peer feedback forms, articles from the South China Morning Post, and vocabulary lists, to help students practise their speaking, reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.
活动分为课前说明、公开课展示和课后反馈交流三个环节。课前,金校长向来自广州、东莞、佛山等地的观课教师介绍了课程设计理念和教学思路。
本节课旨在提升学生口语能力,通过“翻转课堂”促进自主学习,加深知识理解。教学内容围绕“遗产保护”这一DSE常考话题展开,整合了DSE 口语考试材料、同伴评价反馈表、《南华早报》的文章以及相关词汇表等资源,全面锻炼学生口语、阅读、写作和批判性思维能力。
During the lesson, Principal KAM employed different methods to engage the students. He played the song "Hong Kong Kowloon" and displayed pictures of old and new Hong Kong. This piqued the students' interest and encouraged them to share their experiences in Hong Kong during the Spring Festival and the historical buildings they had visited. This exercise helped build their cultural awareness. The group discussion also enabled students to understand the topic better through teamwork. Principal KAM also adjusted the lesson based on the students' reactions to maintain their engagement and enhance their learning effectiveness.
在公开课环节,金校长关注学生不同学习风格,运用视频、音乐、文字、图片等手段,调动学生积极性。他以播放歌曲《Hong Kong Kowloon》和展示香港新旧对比图片开场,激发学生兴趣,引导学生分享春节期间在香港的体验和参观的历史建筑,增强文化认知。分组讨论环节则通过合作学习深化学生对知识的理解。金校长还根据学生反应灵活调整教学内容,以提高学生的学习投入度和有效性。
In the feedback session, the observing teachers commented that Principal KAM's strategies for teaching students according to their aptitude, as well as his integration of Hong Kong cultural contexts into teaching and his in-depth synthesis of various types of knowledge and skills, were highly inspiring. His teaching style demonstrated the experience of a master teacher and provided valuable insights for younger teachers.
在课后交流环节,观课老师们从不同角度对本节公开课给予了高度评价。金礼贤校长在课堂上展示出的因材施教、结合香港文化场景教学、深度整合多种知识和能力等特点给予观课老师很多启发。尤其是其多维度的整合能力,充分展现出经验丰富的优秀教师的课堂艺术,值得每一位教师学习。
