The University of Rochester is a private research university located in Rochester, New York, USA. It is known as the New Ivy and is a member of the Association of American Universities and the World University Alliance.
Founded in 1850, the main campus broke ground on the banks of the Genesee River in 1927, and the River Campus was completed in 1930. During the development process, the school has successively established several colleges and institutes, and gradually became a comprehensive research university.
The college is composed of seven colleges, including the College of Arts and Sciences, the Hakim College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the Eastman School of Music, the College of Medicine and Dentistry, the College of Nursing, the Simon School of Business, and the Warner School of Education.
It is a leader in many fields. The Institute of Optics is the only school in the United States to offer optics majors among undergraduates, ranking first in the United States. The faculty of the college includes 16 members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, 16 members of the National Academy of Medicine, 10 members of the National Academy of Sciences, and 6 members of the National Academy of Engineering.
