"When fingertips sink into damp clay, it feels as though one is touching the centuries-old breath of Lingnan architecture."
Under the guidance of teacher Erion, Grade 5 PYP students recreated the soul of Lingnan architecture using the "slab-building technique." In the workshop, dozens of "young architects" focused on rolling, shaping, and supporting the clay with wooden strips to form upturned eaves and latticed windows. Every texture carried their imagination of traditional architecture, while fingerprints on the tools became the most intimate signatures of their creations.
"When ultraviolet light pierces through leaves and fabric, scientific formulas bloom like flowers on paper."
Teacher Olga, along with two IB art students, led participants in a "dialogue between light and chemistry" in the classroom. The magic of cyanotype lies in its "irreversible serendipity"—paper coated with light-sensitive chemicals gradually develops under UV rays, finally fixing into deep Prussian blue. At the end of the workshop, students laminated their creations, preserving fleeting light and shadow as eternal art.
"Folding, tying, dyeing—every time the fabric is unwrapped, it’s like opening a mystery box."
Known as "the gift of the unexpected", Chinese Painting Rendering art left its mark throughout Art Week. "I intended to create symmetrical patterns, but the strings loosened… yet, this irregular white space gave the piece room to breathe."
At Teacher Lisa's workshop, amidst waves of indigo, the undyed gaps resembled moonlight—what the artist called "a happy accident."
Art is—US!
Art Week was not just a showcase of talent but a convergence of community spirit. From the curators’ spatial design to the collaborative efforts during setup, every detail radiated the warmth of "us."
We crafted answers with our hands and conversed with the world through our creations—here, diverse pathways to the future flourish, and art itself becomes a guiding light.
