What are the most important skills for students to learn now if they want a tech career?
The most important skills for students pursuing a career in technology are soft skills like teamwork, communication, critical thinking, adaptability, creativity, and problem-solving. These should be complemented by an interest in new technologies and programming.
How can students future-proof their skills when technology changes so fast?
The essential soft skills that will future-proof our students are communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. As technology continues to evolve, students must be adaptable to these changes and capable of solving problems. Critical thinking and creativity are also crucial for addressing future challenges effectively.
What are some exciting jobs in computer science and IT that students might not know about?
Some of the jobs or careers our students may pursue in ten or fifteen years don't even exist yet. However, there are currently many exciting roles in IT and computer science, including game developers, VR developers, AI engineers, data analysts, cybersecurity specialists, machine learning engineers, and blockchain developers.
What are some tech projects or hobbies that look great on a future CV or university application?
Getting involved in tech projects and being able to discuss them will be highly beneficial when applying for university, internships, or jobs. Participating in robotics competitions, computational thinking challenges like the Bebras Challenge, hackathons, writing tutorials or reviews about new technology, and joining tech bootcamps are all excellent ways to add value to your CV and gain useful experiences to discuss during interviews.
