From Asian Innovation Exhibitions to Geneva
How Are Rising Stars Forged?
In December 2024, at the Asia International Innovation Expo in Hong Kong, our senior team won the "Sustainable Innovation Award" for their coffee waste water treatment technology.
Just four months later, at the 50th Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, our students stunned the world by securing the top Gold Prize with their coffee-ground lithium battery anode innovation. Their project stood out among 1,000 global entries, cementing their status as pioneers in green technology.
Founded in the 1970s, the Geneva exhibition is one of the world’s oldest and largest innovation platforms. The 2025 edition gathered cutting-edge inventions from 40 countries, spanning life sciences, healthcare, green tech, and precision engineering—truly the "Olympics of Innovation".
These accolades not only highlight HHKCS excellence in innovation but also showcase Chinese youths’ breakthroughs in sustainable development.
From Coffee Grounds to Lithium Batteries
Turning Ideas into Impact
Our students demonstrated exceptional creativity and a deep commitment to sustainability.
Students Naomi Luo (10A), Eloise Qian (10A), Joey Dai (10D), Kobe Kwok (9D), and Katherine Hu (7A) transformed coffee waste into a renewable energy solution. Their project addressed the global challenge of coffee waste disposal.
Through rigorous research, they developed a novel carbonisation process using ZnCl₂at 550°C to transform coffee waste into high-performance carbon material for lithium-ion batteries. This innovation enhances battery capacity, cycle stability, and cost-efficiency while reducing reliance on non-renewable resources.
The technology could redefine the value of coffee waste and propel the renewable energy sector toward a greener, more affordable future.
From Lab to Global Stage
HHKCS Unique STEAM Philosophy
At Geneva, our students presented their project fluently in English, detailing every stage—from lab development to industrial applications and even a closed-loop battery recycling system.
Liu Huaming, the Chinese Ambassador to Switzerland, visited their booth, praising the project as "a seamless fusion of environmentalism and technology, reflecting Chinese youths’global vision”.
Investor groups from Saudi Arabia and Thailand expressed strong interest in commercialising the innovation.
Such achievements are a testament to HHKCS ethos of applying STEAM knowledge to real-world challenges. We will continue to uphold the educational philosophy of "Innovation, Excellence, Internationalization," encouraging more students to focus on sustainable development and contribute their wisdom and strength to the future of humanity.
Beyond Gold: HHKCS Students
Dominate International Competitions
In the inaugural Geneva International Aircraft Design Competition, HHKCS students triumphed over 500 global contenders, sweeping both the "Longest Flight Distance" and "Precision Navigation" awards.
