彼一米森林学校小学部本学年的第三个探究单元以跨学科主题“世界如何运作”为背景,引导Y1学生踏上了一段探索自然节律的精彩旅程。本单元的核心思想是:“季节带来天气、活动和传统的变化,影响我们适应环境并与世界建立联系的方式。”在这个过程中,学生们有机会深入了解地球的变化如何在多方面影响我们的日常生活。
BeeMee Forest School Primary Section's third Unit of Inquiry, under the transdisciplinary theme How the World Works, was an exciting journey through the rhythms of the natural world. Centered around the idea that “Seasons bring about changes in weather, activities, and traditions, influencing how we adapt and connect with the world around us,” this unit gave our young learners the opportunity to explore how the Earth’s changes affect our daily lives in diverse and meaningful ways.
我们通过深入探讨季节的方式开启了本单元的学习。学生们分享了自己的真实感受——他们喜欢夏日的阳光、秋天的凉风、春季的细雨和冬天的寒意。这些交流激发了孩子们的好奇心,也为深入探究奠定了基础。学生们还提出了他们对各个季节感兴趣的问题,为后续的自主探究方向提供了思路。
We began by tuning in through a heartfelt discussion about the seasons. Students shared their personal experiences — what they love about summer’s sunshine, the cool breezes of autumn, the rain showers of spring, and the chills of winter. These conversations sparked curiosity and set the stage for deeper inquiry. The children also reflected on what they still wondered about each season, setting a student-led path of discovery.

Taking our inquiry beyond the classroom, we organized a school-wide survey. With clipboards in hand and confident smiles, our students approached peers, teachers, and staff with questions like, “What can you tell me about the winter season?” (for example, winter, spring, summer, and autumn). By gathering responses from a range of people across the school community, students were able to explore multiple perspectives and gain a broader understanding of how seasons are experienced differently by others.
在整个单元中,学生们参与了丰富的跨学科实践活动,使核心理念变得具体而生动。他们了解了不同季节的天气特征、温度变化,以及由此引发的传统活动和日常生活的变化。在英语、语文和数学课程的支持下,学生们将语言、文化与科学相连接,建立了对世界运作方式的整体认知。
Throughout the unit, our students engaged in hands-on, cross-curricular activities that brought the central idea to life. They explored seasonal weather patterns, temperature changes, and the traditions and daily activities influenced by each season. With support from our English, Chinese, and Math lessons, students made connections between language, culture, and science, building a holistic understanding of how the world works.

To represent their learning, students created beautiful illustrations of the seasons, giving visual form to their personal perspectives. They also got their hands dirty in the best way, planting cucumber, tomato, and pepper seeds. With gentle care, they monitored humidity levels and watered their seedlings daily, eagerly watching for signs of life and growth. This act of nurturing connected them to nature in a personal, meaningful way.
在体育课上,学生们学习了适合不同季节的运动与活动;在音乐课上,他们学唱了与季节相关的歌曲。这些跨学科课程不仅丰富了他们的知识,还为他们提供了更多表达学习成果的方式。
In PE, students explored seasonal sports and physical activities. In music, they learned songs that reflected the mood and culture of each season. These interdisciplinary lessons enriched their understanding and gave them new ways to express what they had learned.
本单元结束,学生们举办了一场以季节为主题的成果展示活动,邀请家长们前来观看。在这个温馨的时刻,孩子们展示了他们的作品,讲解了种植过程,演唱了学习的季节歌曲,并用中英文自信地分享了他们的知识成果。他们的视野得到了拓展,表达能力也显著提升。
To culminate the unit, students proudly hosted a seasonal showcase for their parents. It was a heartwarming event where they presented their artwork, explained the planting process, sang seasonal songs, and talked confidently about their new knowledge in both English and Chinese. It was clear to see how their perspectives had expanded, and their confidence had bloomed.

We are incredibly proud of what our students achieved during this unit. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and creativity truly captured the spirit of inquiry. By making connections across subjects and languages, and by exploring big ideas through hands-on experiences, they have not only deepened their understanding of the world, but also taken confident steps toward becoming internationally minded lifelong learners. This is the essence of IB education, and this unit was a shining example of its power.
