In April, LEH International School Foshan was delighted to welcome Mr Richard Morgan as the new Head of Prep Boarding and teacher of Physical Education. His appointment comes at an exciting time, as interest in our boarding programme continues to grow among younger students, reinforcing our commitment to providing outstanding pastoral care and holistic development from an early age.
Mr Morgan is a seasoned educator from the UK with over 12 years of valuable teaching experience in Physical Education. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Hertfordshire, a PGCE and OTLS qualification, which has provided him with a strong foundation in his field. Mr Morgan demonstrates his dedication to effective teaching practices and fostering a love for physical activity among his students.
With over five years of experience in boarding schools, including three as Head of Boarding, and a strong background as a PE teacher, Mr Morgan has dedicated his career to fostering holistic student development. His passion lies in creating structured yet nurturing environments where young people thrive academically, socially, and physically.
When asked why he chose LEH Foshan, Mr Morgan shared that he was drawn to our school’s dedication to excellence, not just in academics, but in boarding and co-curricular life as well. He believes, just as we do, that a well-rounded education helps young children grow into confident, resilient individuals, equipping them with the skills they’ll need for life, both inside and outside the classroom.
In his interview below, Mr Morgan shares his passion for nurturing young minds and building a supportive boarding community. If you’d like to discover how he plans to foster your child’s academic, physical, and emotional growth at LEH Foshan, we invite you to read on for his inspiring insights.
What are your key priorities for the Prep School boarding programme this term and next academic year?
My immediate focus is on fostering friendships and establishing healthy routines (regarding screentime especially). Looking ahead, I aim to enhance wellbeing initiatives and integrate more outdoor learning and team-building activities.
How will you ensure that boarding students feel safe, supported, and happy in your care?
By prioritising visible staff presence, active listening, and clear safeguarding protocols. A culture where every student has a trusted adult will be key. Happiness comes from feeling seen, so celebrating individuality is central.
What strategies will you use to build trust and open communication with parents?
Transparency is vital. I will ensure parents can reach me easily and inviting feedback will help them feel connected and reassured.
What do you believe are the most important skills young students should develop through sports and physical activity?
Beyond fitness, sports teach grit, leadership, and how to handle both success and failure gracefully. I emphasise collaboration, self-discipline, and the joy of participation, skills that build confidence in and out of the classroom.
Is there anything you would like to say directly to parents and students as you begin your journey with us?
To parents: Thank you for entrusting me with your child’s ‘second home.’ I am committed to partnering with you to make boarding rewarding and fun.
To students: Get ready for activities, challenges, and plenty of laughter. It is going to be a wonderful year together!
As Mr Morgan continues his journey at LEH Foshan, his wealth of experience, passion for holistic education, and commitment to fostering a nurturing, inclusive boarding community position him as a vital role to our school.
With his focus on prioritizing student wellbeing, and bridging home and school through transparent communication, we are confident that he will not only elevate the boarding experience but also inspire students to grow into resilient, confident individuals ready to embrace every challenge with curiosity and joy. We warmly welcome Mr Morgan to the LEH Foshan family and look forward to the positive impact he will make in shaping our students’ lives both inside and outside the classroom.
