In July, MIS welcomed an inspiring new Chinese Head of School, Ms. Wendy. Affectionately known as “School Mom,” Wendy brings a wealth of educational leadership experience and a strong science-focused background.
Since December 2023, Wendy has served as Executive Director of the Science Popularization Center at Shenzhen Bay Laboratory (a Guangdong provincial-level lab specializing in life information and biomedicine). She has led over 360 science education events, reaching nearly 70,000 students, sparking a passion for science in countless young minds.
She has also been the mastermind behind MIS’s popular Shenzhen Bay Lab Winter & Summer Parent-Child Science Camps, now in their fourth year, which are widely acclaimed for their rich, hands-on activities. As a core organizer of the “Bay Bean Club” family education association, she plays an active role in government-level education initiatives across Shenzhen and its districts. Her “Zebrafish” science curriculum was even hailed as a “model for foundational education” at the 2025 National Basic Education Conference by officials from China’s Ministry of Education.
Wendy holds certified teaching credentials from both the US and Australia and has won numerous awards across every stage of education from primary to university. Her global education background—having worked at Harvard University and Griffith University in Australia—combined with her successful parenting (her two daughters currently attend Harvard and MIT respectively), make her the ideal leader to guide MIS into a new era. Her husband, Professor Zhou Yaoqi, a world-renowned bioinformatics scientist, further enhances the school’s strong academic and scientific culture.
