Here at CISH, IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) Visual Arts classes are filled with joy, creativity, and inquiry. In PYP, Visual Arts is more than drawing and painting; it's a dynamic space where students explore diverse artistic forms, techniques, and media. It is where our Maple Dragons unleash their creativity, express themselves authentically, and develop a sense of aesthetic appreciation.
Our PYP Visual Arts program supports students in:
Understanding and appreciating diverse cultures and artistic traditions.
Developing visual literacy to communicate ideas and feelings through art.
Connecting learning to real-world contexts and global issues.
Using a variety of materials and media to create original artworks.
Taking ownership of their learning through self-reflection and peer feedback.
Learning in the PYP nurtures international-mindedness across all disciplines: arts, sciences, mathematics, social studies, language, and physical and personal education. Our goal is to shape inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers, and reflective learners, and Maple Dragons who are not only knowledgeable, but also principled, caring, balanced, and open-minded. And the Visual Arts play a vital role in this journey.
As our PYP Visual Arts Teacher, Ms.Natalie, shared: “I believe the heart of learning lies in the artistic process itself. For me, the sketches, experiments, and creative risks students take are just as important as the final artwork. I treasure the evidence of their thinking that shines through when they take the lead in their own artmaking. Holding to the idea that every child is an artist, I find this philosophy blends beautifully with the IB learner profiles, fostering not only skill but also identity, voice, and agency through art.”
At our art classes at CISH, every creation is a celebration of who our students are becoming. Here, through the lens of Visual Arts, our students are flourishing as global citizens and creative thinkers of tomorrow.
