At Harrow Hengqin, we embed a strong and practical pastoral care system into students' journey. We believe that offering personalised support, guidance and care is a vital part of education.

On 10 October, World Mental Health Day, the school organised a series of activities to give students a “spa for the mind”. These sessions encouraged students to focus on their inner wellbeing, learn to manage stress, and find strength through connection and self-expression.

The global theme for this year’s Mental Health Day was “Access to Services-Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies”. As a school, we’re committed to building a community that takes mental wellbeing seriously. Through daily practice, we not only prepare for challenges but also nurture a culture of mutual support and resilience.

Music Assembly

Music teachers selected three songs to lead a rhythmic and interactive session. Students joined in with movement and voice, releasing stress through beat and sound. Teachers performed Stand by Me, sending a message of warmth and support: “I’m here for you.”

Dodgeball

Students across year groups teamed up by House for a fun and energetic dodgeball competition. They supported each other, worked in sync, and bonded through play. House Masters or Mistresses joined in, building team spirit and care through sport.

Happiness Charter & Drama

In English, students reflected on the question: “What makes you feel happy?” and shared personal moments of joy with classmates. In Drama, they took part in improvised scenes based on the theme “Life Is Not a Rehearsal”, exploring emotions and the value of living in the present.

Love Your Body & Core Blast

Girls engaged in mindful movement sessions with different types of  music, focusing on body awareness, self-care and posture. Boys took part in high-intensity core workouts, building strength, releasing energy, and developing perseverance.

Doodle & Origami:

Making Emotions Visible

With guidance from the school counsellor, students expressed their worries on paper – then tore them up and let them go. Others found calm through origami, folding paper into dogs, cats and cranes, focusing the mind and grounding their emotions.

Dance & Karaoke:

Letting Go Through Movement

From waltz to line dance, students moved freely to the rhythm. Karaoke gave everyone a chance to sing out loud and express themselves – a fun and freeing release.

Mindfulness Jars

Pupils made their own glitter mindfulness jars. Watching the glitter settle helped them slow down and feel calm.

Friendship Posters

Working in groups, children created posters to celebrate friendship. They added sparkly decorations and took photos together, capturing shared memories.

Mindfulness Exercise

Simple body movements guided pupils into a state of calm focus. They learnt to pay attention to their breath and stay present.

“If I Were a Tree”

Children imagined themselves as trees, each one unique. Through drawing, they planted hope and gave shape to their inner world.

This year’s Mental Health Day ended with warm smiles and laughter. Each student received a small gift – a stress ball – to remind them that when pressure builds, it’s okay to pause, breathe, and carry on.

At Harrow Hengqin, we believe mental wellbeing isn’t about one special day – it’s part of everyday life. We remain committed to supporting our students' mental health as they grow into calm, confident and caring individuals.
