Book Week Magic | Where Stories Come Alive
Last week, the CISK campus shimmered with the magic of books.
As the Book Week began, stories, imagination, and ideas filled every corner of the school. Whether performing, creating, or sharing, students found their own ways to express a love for reading.
Opening Doors to Imagination
The library became one of the most popular places on campus. Students brought along their favorite stuffed toys — their 'reading buddies' — to explore the world of stories with friends.
Laughter and soft voices filled the room as pages turned, creating a warm and gentle atmosphere that was as comforting as the stories themselves.
During the lunch break, the lobby of the PYP building was transformed into a small theatre for the Reading Contest.
Dressed as their favourite characters from the books, the students stepped onto the stage. They then either read or retold a passage in one minute. Each performance was full of creativity and emotion.
The audience was impressed by the students’ confidence and imagination, and applause could be heard echoing through the hall.
A Different Kind of Reading: Knowledge and Challenge
During the same lunch break, secondary school students participated in a Kahoot quiz themed around the literary giant Shakespeare.
Through engaging quizzes testing their literary knowledge, students reviewed classic works while rediscovering the joy of reading in a playful atmosphere.
The Book Fair: Bringing Reading Home
Alongside the week’s activities, CISK hosted a vibrant Book Fair in the main lobby.
Vendors displayed a wide range of English books, from picture books and young-adult fiction to science and literature.
Students and parents browsed together, shared recommendations, and discovered new titles that would soon find their way into home bookshelves, planting the seeds for future reading journeys.
Book Swap: Sharing the Joy of Reading
This year’s Book Week also featured a special Book Swap event arranged by Parent Teacher Association.
Students donated pre-loved books from home in exchange for vouchers, which they later used to pick a different book donated by another student. As each book passed from one reader to another, its story continued—spreading the joy of reading across the community.
At the same time, the library offered a selection of unused textbooks for parents to take home freely.
Books traveled beyond classrooms and into homes, creating new connections through shared learning.
Reading Together: Inspiration and Reflection
SLT has also curated a thought-provoking collection of books for our teachers, encouraging them to read and explore ideas beyond ongoing professional development and even beyond the classroom.
These carefully selected titles span themes of education, personal growth, and human stories, reminding everyone that learning is a lifelong journey.
Amidst teaching and responsibilities, educators find moments of quiet reflection, inspiring one another through reading and contemplation.
Reading at CISK goes beyond language learning—it opens minds and builds empathy.Through stories, students learn to listen, to think, and to see the world through different perspectives.
Every page they turn becomes part of a larger journey of understanding, both of the world and of themselves, as well as of others.
