Mole Day Celebration – Science in Action at CISH 摩尔日-CISH科学活动进行中

On October 23, the Canadian International School of Hefei (CISH) celebrated Mole Day, honoring Amedeo Avogadro and his groundbreaking contribution to chemistry. Grade 10, 11, and 12 students brought the Plant Room to life with hands-on experiments, discovering how the mole concept connects microscopic particles to the world around us.

Students eagerly explored stations that turned abstract chemistry into tangible experiences. At the Water You Drank station, they measured a cup of water and calculated the astonishing number of molecules they had just consumed. At the Pencil Lead station, students uncovered the element that makes up pencil “lead” and counted the atoms used while writing the names of family and friends. The Oreo Mole station combined science and sweets as students measured the sugar in Oreo cream and calculated the number of sugar molecules, proving that chemistry can be delicious. Meanwhile, the Soda Mole Explosion station fizzed with excitement as students estimated the number of CO₂ molecules released from soda, turning a simple drink into a chemical spectacle. Finally, at Candy Mole Counting, students used candies to visualize Avogadro’s number, gaining a playful perspective on just how enormous this number really is.

Adding a creative twist to the celebration, one of CISH’s talented students composed an exciting Mole Day Song that captured the spirit of the event with rhythm and enthusiasm. His performance brought energy and laughter, making the celebration even more memorable.

These highlights sparked curiosity, teamwork, and hands-on learning, showing that chemistry is not just about formulas in a textbook but about exploring, experimenting, and connecting science to everyday life.
