As Head of International Music at Stellart International Music College (SIMC), this seasoned mentor brings not only cutting-edge educational concepts but also a deep passion for music and his students. His approach has helped SISA achieve a remarkable milestone: three consecutive years of 100% Berklee College of Music acceptance for its music graduates.

一场跨越国界的音乐教育之旅

A Cross-Border Journey in Music Education

Agustin的音乐之路始于西班牙南部的塞维利亚,在政府提供的公立音乐学院和巴伦博伊姆-赛义德基金会(the Barenboim-Said foundation)的双重培育下,他的长号演奏技艺不断精进,并成功考入伦敦市政厅音乐与戏剧学院深造。求学期间,他便活跃于西班牙与英国的专业交响乐团,更与弗拉门戈舞者Rocio Molina(罗西奥・莫利纳)携手,在四年间带着作品Bosque Ardora巡演全球,足迹遍布欧美、亚洲多国。


这段跨文化的演出经历,让他对不同国家的音乐文化产生了浓厚兴趣,也为日后跨国教育埋下伏笔。当中国的教学机会出现时,他毫不犹豫地抓住了这个契机,先后在多所国际学校积累经验,最终被辰美艺术学校(SISA)独特的教育模式吸引,成为这里的一员。

Agustin’s musical journey began in Seville, in southern Spain. Nurtured both by the public music conservatoires offered by the government and the Barenboim-Said Foundation, he refined his trombone skills to a professional level, eventually earning a place at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. During his studies, he performed with professional symphony orchestras in Spain and the UK, and also began collaborating with flamenco dancer Rocío Molina – a partnership that led to four years of international touring with her production Bosque Ardora, taking him across Europe, the United States, and throughout Asia.


These cross-cultural performance experiences sparked a deep curiosity in him for the musical traditions of different countries – and quietly set the stage for his future in transnational education. When the opportunity to teach in China arose, he seized it without hesitation. After gaining experience in several international schools, he was drawn to the unique educational model of Stellart International School of Arts (SISA) – and became part of its community.

When asked why he chose SISA, Agustin is candid: compared to the limitations of larger international schools, the flexibility and resource support SISA offers its music students can only be described as "a real luxury.""At other schools, music is often just an add-on, but SISA provides a full suite of complementary courses like music theory, ear training, ensemble practice, and music production - all essential skills for any musician in the 21st century."

What he values even more is SISA's understanding of the importance of practice in music education. The school provides students with ample time for self-directed practice, allowing learning to happen more effectively in a low-stress environment. It is this combination of professionalism and student-centered design that makes Agustin firmly believe SISA is the ideal ground for nurturing aspiring musicians.

Agustin attributes SISA's remarkable achievement of a 100% offer rate from world-renowned institutions to the synergy of multiple factors. "Our small class sizes guarantee close contact with every student. Teachers have sufficient time to provide tailored guidance and often offer additional mentoring voluntarily to ensure concepts are thoroughly mastered."


He emphasizes how the professional teaching team, a creative learning environment, and students' self-motivation create a virtuous cycle. Particularly crucial are the abundant performance opportunities – from mini concerts to major events like the New Year Gala, salon concerts, and the student-original fashion show. These repeated practice opportunities allow students to refine their skills and build confidence, which proves especially advantageous during auditions for prestigious schools. "Having been a jury member myself, I can immediately identify applicants who are comfortable and confident on stage."

对于辰美“根植中华,融通世界”的教育理念,Agustin有着深刻的洞察。他认为,中国正成为全球文化影响力的重要一极,继韩流、日流之后,具有中国根源的音乐潮流(CPop)必将走向世界


“我们的学生用音乐表达自我,就像使用第二母语。他们正逐渐意识到中国音乐的独特价值,未来将从‘追随’西方艺术家,转向构建21世纪中国音乐的根基。” 他鼓励学生珍视自身文化根源,并通过留学机会向世界传播,成为中外音乐文化交流的先锋

Agustin offers profound insights into SISA's educational philosophy of being "Rooted in China, Connected to the World." He believes China is emerging as a major force in global cultural influence, and following the waves of K-pop and J-pop, a music movement with Chinese roots – CPop – is destined to make its mark worldwide.


“Our students express themselves through music as if it were their second mother tongue. They are gradually recognizing the unique value of Chinese music. In the future, they will shift from ‘following’ Western artists to building the foundation for Chinese music in the 21st century.” He encourages students to cherish their cultural roots and use their study abroad opportunities to share these with the world, becoming pioneers in Sino-foreign musical and cultural exchange.

融国际理念,促跨学科协作

Innovative Teaching Practices

在教学实践中,Agustin积极融入国际前沿理念与技术。针对中国学生在西方古典音乐认知上的短板,他通过海量音乐赏析、英语思辨讨论等方式拓宽学生视野;对于AI等新技术,他主张“合理利用而非依赖”,建议学生用AI梳理写作思路、激发创作灵感


同时,他还采用同伴互评、翻转课堂、主题调研等现代教学法,从多维度深化学生对音乐的理解。而辰美强调的跨学科学习,在他看来更是与真实音乐行业接轨的关键——例如学校校歌的创作,就集合了语言系(歌词创作)、音乐系(作曲录制)、艺术系(视觉设计)的力量,让学生提前体验团队协作的职业场景(详见本期推文次条)

Agustin integrates cutting-edge international approaches into his teaching. To bridge gaps in Western classical music knowledge, he uses extensive listening sessions and English discussions to broaden perspectives. On technology like AI, he advises "guide, don't rely"—using it to organize ideas or inspire compositions, not replace creativity.


He also employs methods like peer feedback, flipped classrooms, and research projects to deepen musical understanding from multiple angles. At SISA, interdisciplinary work mirrors real industry practice. The school anthem project, for example, united the Language department (lyrics), music department (composition), and art&design department (design), giving students practical teamwork experience essential for their future careers.

Empowering Student Growth

指导学生艺术成长与院校申请时,Agustin注重“技术与自信并重”。他不仅督促学生夯实演奏技巧,更关注其心理状态与职业习惯的培养。“这个阶段养成的习惯会决定他们未来的职业走向,所以我会根据学生需求灵活调整——有时是推动他们攻克技术难点,有时是建议他们适当休息、缓解压力。


他分享了一位伯克利音乐学院学子的案例:这位天赋异禀的学生曾因演出失利陷入情绪崩溃,Agustin及时疏导,让这位学生明白挫折是职业道路的常态,关键在于选择坚持。最终,这位学生凭借顽强的心态与扎实的功底圆梦伯克利音乐学院。

In guiding students, Agustin focuses on "both technique and confidence." He cultivates not only performing skills but also mental resilience and professional habits.


"The habits formed now will shape their careers," he says. His approach is flexible—pushing through technical challenges when needed, but also knowing when to advise rest.


He recalls a student now at Berklee who once struggled with performance pressure. Agustin helped them see setbacks as part of the journey. That student ultimately persevered—securing their offer through resilience and skill.

而对于辰美“艺术连接未来”的愿景,他感慨道:“当今世界节奏太快,人与人之间的隔阂亟待消融。艺术是跨越国界的共同语言,希望我们的学生能用音乐搭建沟通的桥梁,让艺术成为连接未来、凝聚人心的力量。

He hopes they sustain a lifelong love of music and curiosity, while building adaptability and collaboration skills. “University is a perfect chance to connect globally. Don’t stay only within familiar circles—friendships across cultures open new possibilities.”


Reflecting on SISA’s vision of “Connecting the World Through Art,” he shares: “Our world moves fast, yet people feel disconnected. Art is a universal language. May our students use music to bridge divides and bring people together.”
