Where Learning Comes to Life: Field Trips Fanatics
CISK students across the grades step outside the school and into farms, factories, and retail spaces for inquiry-based learning in real-world environments. Field trips are more than just visits—they are meaningful extensions of the curriculum. Through observation, hands-on experience, and reflection, students deepen their understanding of the subject matter and learn how knowledge connects to real life.
A Nature Discovery Day at Yuefeng Island
Students from Grades 1 to 5 enjoyed an immersive learning experience at Yuefeng Island. They explored fruit trees and vegetables on the farm, learned to identify different plants, fed goats and chickens, and observed animal behaviour up close. In the art workshops, students created 'plant fossil' drawings and tried tie-dyeing. Through seeing, touching, and creating, classroom learning came alive in a natural environment.
Exploring Smart Farming at the Zhishudali Vegetable Factory
Students in grades 7 and 8 visited the Zhishudali Vegetable Factory to learn how hydroponic technology is transforming modern agriculture.
Guided by the factory's staff, the students explored different ways to grow vegetables, tasted freshly harvested lettuce, and even experienced generating electricity by pedaling bicycles to power vegetable juicers. During the field trip, CISK students picked oranges and learned about the full journey of food from farm to table. This taught them more about sustainability and healthy living.
From the Source of the Water to the Tap
Grade 9 students visited the local water treatment factory, where the factory director explained in detail the entire process from raw water intake to purification and household supply. Students observed key facilities such as the sand filtration system and learned how each stage contributes to clean and safe water. The visit connected classroom learning with real-world systems of water management, environmental protection, and public infrastructure.
Flavour and Technique: A Hand-brewed Coffee Experience
Grade 10 students visited Starbucks to learn about the different types of coffee beans, where they come from and how they taste. They also had a go at some basic hand-brewing techniques. From the raw materials to the brewing methods, and from the product design to customer service, students discovered the cultural and commercial story behind every cup of coffee, gaining insight into business operations and consumer experience.
