The King’s School, Canterbury
Founded in 597 AD, King’s School Canterbury has over 1,400 years of educational heritage, making it one of the oldest schools in the UK. The campus is set within the majestic grounds of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Canterbury Cathedral, providing students from around the world with a safe and inspiring learning environment.
The summer programme takes place on campus, immersing students in an integrated environment where learning, daily life, and pastoral care are seamlessly combined.
Our programme offers three learning pathways, tailored to students’ interests and abilities, supporting their growth and development in different areas.
English Language Skills
Programme
The English Language Skills Programme is designed for students who wish to systematically improve their English. Through multidisciplinary, theme-based learning, students enhance their language skills in authentic contexts while collaborating with peers from around the world.
The programme is structured around three core learning dimensions:
KNOWLEDGE-BASED LEARNING
The programme integrates themes such as history and sustainable development, helping students broaden their horizons while improving their English skills.
SKILLS-BASED LEARNING
Through project-based tasks such as business proposals and research presentations, students develop their writing skills and logical expression.
VALUES-BASED LEARNING
Students engage in discussions, debates, and presentations, practicing English in interactive settings that gradually build both confidence and fluency.
The Global Studies Programme is designed for students with a solid foundation in English. Instead of separate language classes, students dive straight into academic discussions on global affairs conducted in English.
The programme guides students to think critically and analyse real-world issues.
Students will engage in issue-based analysis and classroom discussions, exploring the complexity of the world from a researcher’s perspective.
Global Youth
Orchestra Programme
The Global Youth Orchestra Programme invites outstanding young musicians from around the world to take part in a two-week immersive experience.
Participants will rehearse advanced classical orchestral repertoire and perform in a formal concert at the historic Shirley Hall, with the performance live-streamed worldwide on YouTube.
With orchestral rehearsals and dival rehearsals led by professional musicians, students will form meaningful musical connections with peers from around the world.
*Instruments that make up an orchestra are: violin (and viola), Cello, Double base, Flute (and piccolo), Oboe, Clarinet, Basson, Horns (trumpet, horns, trombone, french horn etc), percussion (timpani drums)
