Recently, the results of the 2025 British Mathematics Olympiad (BMO Round 1) were announced. Zeno from Farragut School Tianjin achieved an outstanding score of 41 points (average: 12.6 points, median: 11 points) through solid knowledge foundations, exceptional logical reasoning, and independent research capabilities. Right now, I feel that all the time and effort I've invested have finally yielded clear results.” This composure and conviction were foreshadowed by her multifaceted achievements: an IELTS score of 8.5 (with perfect marks in Listening and Reading), a TOEFL score of 114, French B2 proficiency, multiple gold and silver medals in international competitions across mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology, and independent completion of advanced courses from Johns Hopkins University and the University of Sydney—all demonstrate the true meaning of “well-rounded development” through tangible achievements.

Zeno's passion for mathematics stems from the unique sense of discovery found in self-study. “Many competition problems aren't as straightforward as classroom exercises; they require you to figure out the approach yourself. That process really captivates me.” This pure passion became the driving force behind her deep engagement in math competitions, propelling her to achieve outstanding results in numerous events including the Shing-Tung Yau International High School Mathematics Summer Camp, AMC 12, SMC, MMO, and CCL.

When hitting roadblocks, she either maintained her thinking during relaxation or proactively discussed strategies with teachers, achieving breakthroughs through a blend of “independent research + strategic support.”

From science competitions to language enhancement, from high school curricula to advanced university content, Zeno's learning capabilities consistently demonstrate efficient transferability. “I never deliberately separated subject-specific approaches—the ability to self-learn is inherently transferable,” she shared. Whether it's logical deduction in science competitions or the gradual accumulation in language learning, the core process remains the same: “build a knowledge framework—practice filling gaps—synthesize into a cohesive system.” The practical application of this skill relies on sustained effort rather than short-term cramming.


The decision to take college courses early stemmed from her intense desire for academic exploration. “I have a deep interest in certain fields and hope to engage with more advanced content sooner,” she explained. Facing knowledge challenges far beyond high school level and language barriers, Zeno remained steadfast: she first researched independently, reviewed course videos repeatedly, and tackled difficulties head-on. When confusion persisted, she proactively sought guidance from school teachers, progressing steadily through a blend of self-directed inquiry and strategic support. This remarkable sense of planning took root as early as elementary school—from independently creating weekly and monthly schedules to developing a clear understanding of her own learning habits. This self-awareness enabled her to consistently move toward her goals without external supervision.
