Last week, we were delighted to see an overwhelming turnout of IGCSE Options Evening from our Year 9 parents, a resounding vote of confidence in the educational pathway we provide. This exceptional attendance at our IGCSE Options Evening transformed the event into a vibrant forum for the future. Families engaged deeply with Mr Norton, our Head of Academics, as he mapped out the significance of IGCSEs within the broader arc of student success, before diving into insightful conversations with our subject leaders.
Mr Tom Norton is a dedicated, compassionate, and decisive educational leader with over 20 years of experience in school management, curriculum innovation, and teaching excellence. His leadership has consistently delivered outstanding results in whole-school development, teaching quality, and student achievement.
Since 2021, Mr Norton has served as Deputy Headteacher at a high-performing secondary school in England, where his empathetic yet strategic approach has driven measurable improvements in pupil outcomes, stakeholder engagement, and curriculum design.
He holds a PGCE in Mathematics Teaching from Manchester Metropolitan University and a BA (Hons) in Linguistics (2:1) from the University of Manchester. Committed to professional growth, he has completed the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL) and the National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership (NPQML), equipping him with exceptional strategic leadership skills and a forward-thinking approach to education.
It is vital that parents and students are properly informed as to the assessment, content and future pathways each subject entails. It is also important to understand the support that is available to students and parents as they go through this process. This is why we hold an Information session, and why we invite teachers and students from each subject to come along to answer questions. Previous feedback and experience from a range of schools and systems is used to inform the planning of the session, and we always look to refine such events in response to what the families tell us.
Empowering Informed Choices for Long-Term Success
The IGCSE Information Session incorporates support where people are unsure, as they can ask questions in a supportive environment. Sometimes asking teachers such questions can feel daunting, which is why we have student ambassadors for each subject during the evening to help with this. Beyond the event itself, we expect tutors to speak with their tutor groups about the choices during the time they have to decide, and then we follow up with conversations with leaders to ensure everyone is able to choose wisely.
Parents also play an important part in this, so we aim to support them in guiding their children through this time. Beyond this Information Session, LEH Foshan also offers tutor meetings to deliver an in-depth explanation of the curriculum system. Tutors will share key up-to-date information, answer questions, and help parents gain insights into the school’s daily campus life. In addition, we hold Parent-Teacher Conferences on a regular basis to discuss our students’ academic progress together.
Deep Dive: Understanding the LEH Foshan IGCSE
Our Key Stage 4 courses are stimulating, enabling students to stretch their academic interests, and pursue the subjects they have chosen, encouraging them to be intellectually and physically adventurous. During Key Stage 4, students work towards IGCSE qualifications. The courses in Years 10 and 11 are designed to provide a challenging education, allowing students to begin to specialise in certain areas of interest without sacrificing a balance of subjects and skills. In English, Mathematics and Mandarin our more able students will begin their studies in Year 9, thus allowing them to take some examinations at the end of Year 10.

IGCSEs provides the opportunity to broaden and deepen skills, understanding and knowledge in each subject. With so much to develop, the choices students make in Year 9 hold notable weight and as such it is a crucial point in their education journey. With a well-structured curriculum, robust home-school collaboration and a student-centred approach, we are committed to helping every learner make the most of their IGCSE studies, build a solid academic foundation for A-Levels and future university pathways, and grow into confident, independent thinkers along the way.
