For one vibrant week, Tsinglan’s hallways transformed. The ordinary classroom door—often just a piece of wood—became a portal. It could lead you to the tragic romance of Romeo and Juliet, the chocolate rivers of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, or the starry contemplations of The Little Prince.
This was our Literature Week: a celebration where stories leapt off the page and ignited the entire High School. From collaborative masterpieces on classroom doors, to the electric buzz of trivia battles, the quiet blossoming of a community “Poet-Tree,” and the powerful, resonant voices of the Poetry Out Loud finals, every corner of our campus thrummed with creative energy.
This is more than an event recap. It’s a glimpse into a learning culture where students are not just readers, but interpreters, artists, collaborators, and performers. Join us as we revisit the magic.
○ The Magic in the Margins ○
If you walked the halls from Wednesday to Friday, you witnessed a beautiful kind of creative chaos—a symphony of rustling paper, soft shushes of scissors, and the buzz of pure excitement. Our annual ‘Decorate Your Door’ event transformed the school into a walking literary gallery.
The premise was simple: each class selects a book and turns their door into a visual celebration. The result was a breathtaking testament to shared imagination. The diversity was a joy to behold: the gentle asteroid of The Little Prince; the whimsy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory beside the poignant balcony of Romeo and Juliet; the iconic Very Hungry Caterpillar inspiring a burst of colorful collage.
But the true lesson was in the process. Students became project managers, artists, and negotiators. They measured, painted, debated, and collaborated—learning teamwork, visual literacy, and the profound truth that all stories, from graphic novels to dystopian classics, hold immense value. Our doors are now permanent invitations into the worlds we built together.

Kahoot! Ignites Competition
The buzz of friendly competition filled our classrooms as students engaged in high-energy Kahoot! quizzes. This dynamic mix of English literature trivia and language mastery transformed classes into arenas of wit and words.
Cheers and (good-natured) groans filled the air as classmates faced off in fast-paced digital showdowns. More than just a game, it was a vibrant review and celebration of learning, showcasing impressive knowledge in a format that matched our students' digital fluency and collaborative spirit.
The Blossoming of Our Poet-Tree
In a quiet corner, a unique sapling took root—our Poet-Tree. This bare branch, transformed into a symbol of collective voice, invited students from Grades 9-12 to pause, reflect, and pen original verses inspired by haiku and the natural world.
Thoughts about a sunrise, ocean waves, or an autumn leaf crystallized onto paper leaves.
One by one, these contributions were hung, creating a flourishing canopy of creativity. This quiet activity was a powerful statement: there is a poet within everyone, and together, we can grow something beautiful.
The week culminated in the highlight event: the Poetry Out Loud finals in the Shuimu Theatre.
After intensive class and grade-level semifinals, twelve finalists from Grades 9-12 took the stage before a captivated audience.
They brought to life a stunning range of poetry—from Edgar Allan Poe to Lin-Manuel Miranda—with remarkable poise, clarity, and emotional depth.
The finals showcased not just mastery of language, but incredible courage and personal connection.
We proudly congratulate our winners:

More than a competition, this journey built public speaking confidence, fostered a deep appreciation for poetic artistry, and created a vibrant, spoken-word community.
As the final verses faded, Literature Week left behind more than vibrant decorations. It left a profound reminder: learning thrives in the buzz of creation, the quiet confidence of a spoken word, and the shared joy of bringing an idea to life.
The true magic was not just in the worlds we built on our doors, but in the community we built alongside them—a community of thinkers, creators, and storytellers.
Here at Tsinglan, literature shows its greatest power:
it doesn't just fill minds;
it connects hearts and builds a home for every voice.
