2026届西亚斯国际学校外籍住宿部英文演讲比赛，在热烈与感动中，圆满落幕。

本次比赛以“点燃思想，勇敢开讲”为主题，在开放式选题的框架下，学生们从多元文化、科技发展、旅行体验、个人成长、住宿生活等角度出发，用英语构建观点、表达态度、回应世界。这不仅是一场语言能力的展示，更是一场属于IB学习者的思想表达。在这里，我们看见了表达的力量，也看见了成长的轨迹。

When the lights dimmed and the spotlight slowly rose,

when the audience fell silent and the first English sentence gently landed,

when applause began to echo through the hall—the stage truly belonged to our students.

The 2026 Boarding English Speech Contest of the Sias International School concluded successfully, filled with enthusiasm and heartfelt moments.

Under the theme “Spark a Thought, Speak It Out,” this year’s open-topic format invited students to explore diverse perspectives—from multicultural experiences and technological development to travel reflections, personal growth, and boarding life. Through English, they constructed ideas, expressed viewpoints, and responded thoughtfully to the world around them. This was more than a demonstration of language proficiency; it was a powerful expression of IB learners’ thinking and voice. Here, we witnessed not only the power of expression, but also the journey of growth.

舞台灯光下，每一位孩子都带着属于自己的故事走上讲台。

B组二等奖获得者MYP3 Lucas凭借多国生活和学习的独特经历，以文化冲击为主题，将自己在不同国家感受到的文化碰撞与融合娓娓道来，让大家看到了多元文化视角下的思考；

MYP4的Gene挑战高难度主题——蒸汽机。撰稿过程充满挑战，却仍大胆请缨去到更强组别同台竞技，这份勇气与对自我的挑战，正是“勇于尝试”的最佳诠释。

MYP1的Tony，则让我们看见成长最动人的样子。比赛之初的他还带着犹豫：“我可不可以不参加？一定要参加吗？”到反复打磨每一个词句，哪怕是拗口的单词也坚持保留；从一遍遍听音练习，到自信完成整场演讲。他的蜕变，诠释了“反思”与“全面发展”的力量。

Beneath the stage lights, each student stepped forward carrying a story uniquely their own. 

Lucas from MYP3, winner of the Second Prize in Group B, drew on his experience of living and studying in multiple countries. Centered on the theme of cultural shock, he thoughtfully described moments of collision and connection between different cultures, offering the audience a reflective perspective shaped by multicultural understanding.

MYP4 student Gene took on a challenging topic—the steam engine. The writing process was demanding, yet he boldly volunteered to compete in a higher-level group. His courage to push beyond his comfort zone was a true embodiment of the IB learner profile attribute: Risk-taker.

Tony from MYP1 showed us one of the most touching journeys of growth. At the beginning, he hesitated: “Do I have to participate?” Yet he went on to polish every word and sentence, even insisting on keeping difficult vocabulary. From repeatedly practicing pronunciation to confidently delivering his full speech on stage, his transformation reflected the strength of being Reflective and Balanced.

Vincent和Dylan以及他们的朋友Noah（同时也是经常参加宿舍活动的员工子女），将镜头对准住宿生活。三人以轻松幽默的方式讲述自律成长与宿舍日常，有“吐槽”宿舍里“老师检查完作业才能用手机”的小日常，也有对独立生活的反思与收获，满满的温情与趣味，让台下观众笑得合不拢。

Kimberly的旅行主题演讲更是让人印象深刻，PPT里的绝美风景照，搭配她流畅生动的英文介绍，让画面瞬间鲜活，她也如同黑马一般，凭借完美的演讲收获评委一致赞誉。

刚加入住宿两周的Kelly，恰逢演讲比赛准备过半，短时间内她高效完成演讲稿撰写与练习，将自己的“希腊之旅”活泼呈现，让所有人看到了她的潜力；

一直想以“生命不可承受之轻”为演讲主题的Janet，这次也有了机会将自己的对生命的解读呈现在大家面前，收获了所有同学的“膜拜”，将比赛拉到高潮。

Vincent and Dylan, together with their friend Noah—who is also a staff child actively involved in dorm activities—turned the spotlight on boarding life. With humor and sincerity, the trio shared stories of discipline, independence, and daily dorm life. From playfully mentioning the rule of “no phones until homework is checked,” to reflecting on personal growth through independent living, their performance filled the auditorium with warmth and laughter.

Kimberly’s travel-themed speech was equally impressive. Stunning images in her presentation, paired with her vivid and fluent narration, brought her journey to life. Like a "dark horse", she won unanimous praise from the judges for her poised and polished performance.

Kelly, who had joined the boarding community only two weeks earlier and halfway through the competition preparation period, efficiently completed her speech writing and rehearsal in a short time. Her lively presentation of her “Journey to Greece” revealed remarkable potential and adaptability.

Janet, who had long hoped to speak on “The Unbearable Lightness of Life,” finally had the opportunity to share her reflections on life. Her thoughtful interpretation resonated deeply with her peers and brought the competition to an emotional high point.

还有第一次站上舞台演讲的孩子，紧张到声音颤抖，却依然坚持完整表达观点。那一刻，勇气本身就已经胜过分数。

There was also a first-time speaker whose voice trembled with nervousness—yet he persisted and completed his speech with clarity and determination. In that moment, courage mattered more than any score.

Throughout this competition, what we witnessed was far more than language proficiency. We saw the intellectual depth, intercultural understanding, and confident expression that define IB learners.

由校领导及本校资深外教老师组成评委团，从内容、表达、台风、创意等多维度进行专业打分与点评。评委们被孩子们的精彩表现和这段时间里惊人的英文进步深深打动，高度赞扬了选手们开阔的文化视野与出色的思辨能力，更鼓励大家保持热爱、勇敢表达，在语言与世界的对话中继续成长，看见更广阔的未来。

The judging panel, composed of school leaders and experienced foreign teachers, evaluated each performance from multiple perspectives, including content, delivery, stage presence, and creativity. The judges highly praised the students’ cultural perspectives and critical thinking abilities, encouraging them to continue thinking bravely and speaking confidently on the global stage.

聚光灯下是表达，聚光灯外是默默的支撑。

Dylan主动请缨担任主持，和Janet一起沉稳把握流程；Kimberly和Frank设计邀请函，用邮件发送给每位老师，让比赛充满仪式感；Mitsuki与Bruce把海报张贴在校园各处；Gene为比赛期间的背景音乐做了功课；Emily精心定制奖杯等等；大家分工协作，学会责任、沟通与担当。活动筹备之外，是IB教育中“行动”与“社群”的真实实践。

Under the spotlight stands expression; beyond the spotlight lies quiet dedication.

Dylan volunteered to serve as host, working alongside Janet to guide the program with calm and confidence. Kimberly and Frank designed the invitations and emailed them to every teacher, giving the competition a true sense of ceremony. Mitsuki and Bruce posted the event posters throughout the campus. Gene carefully prepared the background music for the competition, while Emily thoughtfully customized the trophies.

Through collaboration and shared responsibility, everyone learned the value of communication, accountability, and commitment. Beyond the preparation of the event itself, this was a genuine practice of “action” and “community” within IB education.

It’s truly wonderful to see everyone working together toward a common goal.

This speech contest was not only an evaluation, but also a new beginning.

Cultural Confidence in ExpressionThrough topics such as Chinese New Year and historical culture, students shared the beauty of Chinese traditions in English, allowing culture to shine in an international context.

Critical Thinking and Communication SkillsFrom brainstorming ideas to standing confidently on stage, every rehearsal represented growth in logical thinking and public speaking ability.

Expanding Global PerspectivesBy discussing global themes such as friendship and travel, students demonstrated understanding and respect for diverse cultures, which is a core value of international education.

After the competition, a special surprise awaited the students—a relaxed and joyful McDonald’s dinner. Amid laughter and lighthearted moments, this shared celebration brought a warm and satisfying close to their hard work.We also gradually received positive feedback from parents and teachers. Every word of encouragement has been the most genuine recognition of the students’ dedication and effort.

The English speech competition brought this semester to a successful close and marked the beginning of new explorations.Within the IB framework, language is not merely a subject—it is a tool for thinking; expression is not merely a skill—it is a responsibility.

Looking ahead, the International Boarding Department of Sias International School will continue to cultivate a learning environment with a broader global perspective and deeper practical engagement, enabling students to think in authentic contexts, understand through multicultural experiences, and build confidence through public expression.

When minds are ignited, when courage is awakened, the stage is no longer just a stage—It is where growth takes place.
