Recently, Shanghai Hongrun Boyuan School, held an orientation session for its spring semester elective courses. The diverse course offerings continue to span multiple disciplines, including language studies, humanities and arts, sports and wellness, hands-on experiences, and technological innovation, providing students with a broader range of developmental pathways. In the auditorium, students gained clearer insights into course content and learning approaches through the presentations, prompting them to consider how to broaden their interests and develop their skills during the new semester.
In the language and exam preparation domain, students can enhance their language and expression skills through various courses. For example, some courses teach sketch writing and stage performance, allowing students to try stand‑up comedy in Chinese or English; others focus on targeted preparation for exams like IELTS and the SAT. There are also introductory Japanese courses, as well as French courses that start with basic letters and simple conversations, helping students gradually engage with new languages and cultures and encouraging them to speak in authentic contexts.
In the humanities and arts expression area, the courses are equally rich. Some courses center on classic musicals, exploring their themes, stage presentation, and artistic expression. Others guide students in keeping and organizing journals, helping them build a personal recording system that adds moments of reflection and calm to a busy academic life. There are also courses tied to a student literary magazine, offering opportunities to publish writing, art, and photography, and to participate in editing and layout processes—so that their work truly “gets seen.” Additionally, film courses based on viewing and discussion, as well as choir and singing training, allow aesthetics, expression, and collaboration to naturally grow in the classroom.
For sports‑loving students, this semester also offers a variety of physical training courses. Some combine gym workouts with multiple ball sports, teaching students more scientific and safer training methods through strength and aerobic exercises. There are also martial arts training courses, introductory dance classes, and courses focused on football rules and referee practice. Beyond these, the school provides British equestrian courses and rowing interest courses, offering students broader sports experiences that strengthen both body and will.
