Mr Norton

Mr Tom Norton

Another of our regular Open Door Week concluded last week, with our teachers stepping into one another’s lessons, exchanging thoughtful feedback, and embracing the spirit of collaborative learning. This practice is a key pillar of LEH Foshan’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) strategy: it nurtures a culture of mutual learning, where educators share insights, refine their craft, and grow together as reflective professionals, all to deliver the highest standard of education for our students.

The relaxed and pressure-free atmosphere of Open Door Week encourages exploration and sharing, and gathers every teacher's wisdom into the growth power of the team. This open, inclusive and innovative professional culture is what Mr Norton, our Head of Academics, thinks highly of. At LEH Foshan, every teacher is willing to actively improve teaching and try new ideas, making the professional learning community vibrant.

Mr Norton

Head of Academics

Mr Tom Norton is a dedicated, compassionate, and decisive educational leader with over 20 years of experience in school management, curriculum innovation, and teaching excellence. His leadership has consistently delivered outstanding results in whole-school development, teaching quality, and student achievement.

Since 2021, Mr Norton has served as Deputy Headteacher at a high-performing secondary school in England, where his empathetic yet strategic approach has driven measurable improvements in pupil outcomes, stakeholder engagement, and curriculum design.

He holds a PGCE in Mathematics Teaching from Manchester Metropolitan University and a BA (Hons) in Linguistics (2:1) from the University of Manchester. Committed to professional growth, he has completed the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL) and the National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership (NPQML), equipping him with exceptional strategic leadership skills and a forward-thinking approach to education.

I have seen so much openness to developing practice and trying new ideas since I arrived at LEH Foshan, and this is not something that every school has. I am proud to say we have it here, and I want to harness it as we continue to grow.

Also, I have been really pleased to see the confidence of students when I have been asking them about their learning. It is very powerful seeing students demonstrate their understanding of what they are doing and why, and this has been very strong last week.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) refers to the ongoing training, learning, and professional growth of teachers and staff within a school, which is the core of our educational philosophy. We believe that feedback, reflection and goal-setting are not only teaching methods for students, but also the key to teachers' professional growth. When teachers practice as reflective learners, they set the best example for students. Students should see firsthand that all teachers are looking to develop, and in the long run we should also see practice improve; for observers as they take away ideas to trial in their own classrooms, and for those observed as they receive affirming feedback and become more confident as a result.

Second in Science

& CPD Coordinator

Great teaching has a direct impact on students, and effective CPD helps ensure that teachers are continually improving their skills. Ultimately, we want our students to benefit from the best teaching possible, both now and in the future.

As a part of our school's CPD system, Open Door Week is a microcosm of LEH Foshan building a professional learning community. In the future, we will continue to improve the CPD plan, involve all teachers in it deeply, and with more diverse forms of professional development, let every educator grow in communication and advance in exploration. Ultimately, we will make high-quality teaching practice a solid backing for every student's growth.
