Impressive Overall Performance,Standout
Strength in Mathematics
The students delivered an outstanding performance across all subjects, with an impressive 60% A-rate and 81% A-C rate. Such high pass and excellence rates have laid a solid foundation for students’ advanced studies in the A2 phase.
Among all subjects, Pure Mathematics 1 shone with a 70% A-rate, with many students scoring full marks, making the high-score segment highly competitive.
Pure Mathematics 2 delivered an even more remarkable performance: a 75% A-rate, 83% A-B rate, and a perfect 100% A-C rate, achieving a 100% pass rate for all students and emerging as the star subject of this year’s exams. The five students who earned full marks have fully demonstrated their top-tier academic capabilities.
*Please note that A* grade are not available at AS Level, only at A2.

Mastering formulas can guarantee a good score, but paying attention to details is the key to sprinting for a perfect mark. I once fell behind when the course progress accelerated, and then I started breaking down the teachers’ problem-solving steps and trying to understand the reasoning behind each step.
My two teachers have complementary teaching styles with distinct focuses: Ms Soo emphasizes the logical thinking of problem-solving, while Mr Oguku pays more attention to details and practical application. To hone my problem-solving thinking, I also attended the Maths Puzzle EA taught by Mr Koç every Monday, where I could ask the teacher questions at any time and spend more time learning mathematics.

As a student who almost dropped Further Mathematics, I thought studying two mathematics subjects at the same time would be extremely stressful. Ms Soo, who teaches Pure Mathematics 2, had five students in her class achieve full marks.
"In my daily teaching, I always insist on thorough lesson preparation. I first do a large number of past paper questions myself, then organize notes for students. Harrow students are really busy, so I try to seize every opportunity to meet with them and focus my main energy on explaining problems and answering questions, getting straight to the point.
During teaching, I noticed that students with weak foundations use AI for translation and problem-solving. As a teacher, I was confused for a long time about whether to allow this, and later found that using AI at least ensures they can finish their homework on time.
Therefore, I also flexibly adjust my teaching methods, allowing them to use AI tools as learning aids, while guiding them to gradually break away from over-reliance on these tools. The core is to teach them practical answering skills and efficient scoring strategies, so that they can gradually master learning methods and improve their grades."

For students with still developing English proficiency and average mathematical abilities, teaching and guidance are provided by Mr Nalo Zhu, a renowned teacher from Tsinghua University. With a profound academic background in mathematics and rich experience in bilingual teaching, Mr Zhu excels at breaking down complex mathematical knowledge into simple and easy-to-understand language, helping students with weak foundations fill the gaps in both language and mathematical knowledge simultaneously.

Chemistry classes always focus on understanding logic Instead of memorizing. He first thoroughly explains the underlying principles of knowledge points to students, then matches them with past paper practice and repeated consolidation. Before the exam, students had already completed 15 sets of past paper questions. For content that must be memorized, such as formulas, I lead students to practice hundreds of times until they master them proficiently. Even formulas have logical reasoning behind them.

Practical experiments are also valued as a supplementary learning tool. Although there are no experimental questions in this year’s exam, hands-on experiments are still crucial for understanding knowledge points.

Mr Lau also built the PotatoChemistry teaching website on his own, where he uploads PPTs, handwritten notes, practice questions and other materials for students to review after class.

Mr Noel Lau’s educational vision is vividly embodied here, with a sentence on the homepage of his teaching website that reads:
Access to education is a right. Quality academic resources should be freely available to any student, not hidden behind paywalls.
For students at different levels, he uses his after-class time to answer questions and help top students make further progress. He also offers a Chemistry ASA after-school class for the Upper School to provide tutoring for students in need.
