CISH Maple Dragons attended the 2026 Hippo English China National Finals hosted by Macao Polytechnic University. We are proud to celebrate the achievements our students brought back, as well as the experiences and memories they shared with students from many other schools.

What is this competition?

The Hippo “English Without Borders” Olympiad is organized by the Global Hippo Association, which was founded in 2012 and is headquartered in Italy. Over the past 14 years, the event has involved students from more than 70 countries and regions. In 2025 alone, nearly 100,000 students worldwide participated, making it one of the world’s most influential English (non-native) challenges and assessments for youth.

Why did we participate?

The 2026 Hippo China National Finals consisted of three academic modules: the Written Assessment, the Spelling Bee, and the Silk Road English Carnival. The Written Assessment evaluated students’ literacy skills, particularly their reading and writing abilities. The Spelling Bee challenged students’ vocabulary range through a variety of formats, while also testing their confidence and emotional resilience in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

The final component, the Silk Road English Carnival, reflected this year’s contest theme by incorporating the rich and diverse cultural elements of the Silk Road. Through a range of interactive activities and games, students were encouraged to appreciate the beauty of cultural exchange, integration, and innovation between East and West. This experience provided our Maple Dragons with not only valuable challenges, but also opportunities to grow, connect, and represent CISH on a national stage.
