Guess how many bouncy little surprises are hiding in life?

At the BeeMee Forest Xiangfu Campus, K3B Waxberry Class turned “the cycle of life” into a super fun adventure game.

No sitting still for “lessons” - we snuggled up with picture books, crouched by grass patches to watch ants and plants, dug in the dirt with tiny shovels, and held magnifying glasses to peek at wiggly tadpoles… Quietly stepping on the seven little footprints of the EYFS framework, touching, looking, and doing - we tucked the secret of “growing up” right into our little heads.

Turns out, when we gaze softly at life, growing up gets fluffy and full of strength.

01

Listen: Life Is Telling a Story

The children took part in all three life cycle lessons - plants, chickens, and frogs. Together, they observed how a seed absorbs water, sprouts, blossoms, and bears fruit; witnessed an egg develop from embryo to hatchling to feathered chick; explored how a tadpole grows hind legs, then front legs, and finally transforms into a frog.

With every observation and discussion, the children captured subtle changes with curious eyes, connecting the growth patterns of all three lives.

“Guess what this tiny black particle will turn into?”

“Where do the tadpole’s legs grow from?”

In these animated exchanges, they not only understood the complete cycles of different lives, but also quietly planted the seeds of respecting life and loving nature in their hearts.

EYFS Key Areas:

  • CL (Communication and Language): Improve language comprehension and expression through listening to stories, observing growth milestones, and sharing discoveries; learn to clearly articulate findings and willingly exchange ideas with peers.

  • UW (Understanding the World): Systematically perceive the growth patterns of plants and animals, understand the complete process of life from beginning to maturity, and build holistic knowledge of the natural world.

02

Life Growth Track, Life Diary at Your Fingertips

After revisiting the growth journeys of plants, chicks, and frogs - from seed → seedling → flowering → fruiting, to egg → embryo → hatching → adult chicken, and from tadpole → hind legs appear → front legs appear → adult frog—the children have already internalised these processes.

Eager to “capture” each stage of life, we observed seeds together before planting them and waiting for them to sprout and grow. We also explored the chick’s development and created a collage of a chick’s life cycle.

The teacher only provided reference images, encouraging the children to observe real sprouts, seedlings, and living forms, and to represent them in their own ways.

EYFS Key Areas:

  • EAD (Expressive Arts and Design): Freely choosing materials and forms of expression, using artistic language to document changes in life, exercising creativity to convey understanding of life, and enhancing aesthetic awareness and artistic expression.

  • Mathematics: By sequencing the stages of growth, children naturally grasp logical relationships such as “order” and “before/after,” perceive increasing quantities, and begin to build sequential thinking and an early concept of time.

03

Sow with Heart, Witness Growth

The “protagonists” of this creation were tiny dormant seeds, tender vegetable seedlings, and the children’s small shovels, watering cans, and observation journals. They planted these little lives into the soil - gently scattering vegetable seeds, carefully transplanting lush green seedlings, watering, observing, and measuring every day, recording each change with drawings and words.

From the first sprout breaking through the soil, to the unfolding of the first true leaf, and then to the stem growing taller day by day, the children witnessed life sprouting and thriving right beneath their fingers.

Every crouching observation and every careful note was a gentle gaze upon life itself.

When they saw the seeds they had personally planted grow into thriving green seedlings, what they held was not just a pot of plants, but a vivid understanding of the cycle of life.

EYFS Key Areas:

  • PD (Physical Development): Digging, sowing, watering, and measuring exercise hand strength and coordination, enhance the cooperation between gross and fine motor skills, and improve physical control.

  • UW (Understanding the World): Observing the different stages of plant growth, learning about the conditions seeds need to germinate and grow (water, sunlight, air), perceiving the process of life changes, and building an understanding of and respect for the natural world.

04

Careful Catch, Documenting the Transformation Journey

A corner of the classroom turned into a “Tadpole Growth Lab,” where children became little biologists and began a gentle journey of care: they carefully caught wriggling little black dots at the “pond corner” and placed them softly into their transparent “home”; took turns daily to feed them tiny bits of vegetable and micro-pellets, watching ripples spread across the water; then crouched by magnifying glasses to closely observe, recording each moment—tail shortening, hind legs emerging.

Some grew anxious when the water turned cloudy, and the teacher gently prompted, “Let’s think together about how we can change their water.”Day after day, they kept the little creatures company and watched over them, waiting only for the moment they would transform into frogs and leap out of the tank—their eyes sparkling with surprise and anticipation.

EYFS Key Areas:

  • UTW (Understanding the World): Learn about the life cycle of amphibians through close contact, sparking curiosity and a desire to explore natural phenomena.

  • CL (Communication and Language): Enrich vocabulary and enhance expressive and communicative skills by describing tadpoles’ changes and discussing care methods with peers.

The “Life Cycle” project goes beyond memorizing biological stages; it reflects how children learn to understand and respect nature through personal experience.

Moving from storybooks to art, and from caring for plants and animals to conducting science experiments, the children of K3B explored the seven areas of the EYFS framework through five fun-filled activities.

Here, they found joy in exploration, built essential skills, and learned that “every life is worthy of care.” Truly, the best lessons in life are hidden in the children’s focused eyes as they watch a bud grow, and in the careful way they reach out to touch a small life.
