On May 20, students from the CHP program at Tianjin Farragut School visited the School of International Business at Beijing Foreign Studies University for a specialized study tour. The program included a diverse range of activities, such as academic coursework, discussions with distinguished alumni, cross-cultural interactions with international students from various countries, campus tours, and specialized lectures on the program. Through a full day of immersive, systematic on-site experiences at this prestigious institution, students gained a deep appreciation for the academic heritage and international character of the School of International Business at Beijing Foreign Studies University. They developed a systematic and comprehensive understanding of the CHP program’s 2+2 and 1+3 Sino-foreign cooperative education models, laying a professional and comprehensive foundation for their medium- to long-term plans for further education abroad.

Immersive Academic Classes: Aligned with University Standards, Building Strong Language Skills

During the morning session, all students participated in the standardized university academic curriculum offered by the School of International Business at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), with a focus on specialized courses in academic English speaking and academic reading. Compared to the foundational courses in high school, BFSU’s university curriculum places greater emphasis on cultivating academic thinking, professional language skills, and critical thinking. Classes employ an international, interactive teaching model, fostering a rigorous yet open learning environment. Leveraging a standardized academic teaching system, instructors guided students in analyzing academic texts, articulating professional perspectives, and engaging in classroom discussions. The participating students actively took part in classroom interactions, proactively completed academic expression and critical thinking exercises, and demonstrated strong academic competence and initiative throughout the program.

This university course experience provided students with a firsthand comparison of teaching methodologies and academic paces at overseas universities, effectively enhancing their academic English reading and writing skills, professional oral communication abilities, and critical thinking skills. By gaining early exposure to university-level academic training models, students were able to adapt in advance to the teaching systems and learning requirements of Sino-foreign cooperative programs, laying a solid academic foundation and intellectual groundwork for their subsequent transition into the CHP program, their undergraduate major studies, and future overseas academic pursuits.

In-Depth Alumni Forum: Learning from Seniors’ Experiences to Pinpoint the Right Path for Higher Education

During the lunch hour, our school’s lead instructor, Ms. Cherry, held a special focus group discussion with outstanding CHP alumni currently enrolled at the School of International Business at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU). The discussion centered on key areas such as course alignment, academic progress, career development plans, challenges in coursework, and preparations for applying to overseas universities, providing a comprehensive overview of the alumni’s overall academic and personal development during their time at BFSU.

Drawing on their own experiences with academic transition and coursework, past graduates systematically shared practical strategies for adapting to university-level studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) following their time at Farragut High School, as well as key points regarding curriculum alignment and exam preparation. These insights provided current CHP students with highly valuable, actionable guidance. Furthermore, the findings from this symposium and research have provided authentic and effective data support and practical evidence for our university to optimize the talent development system of the CHP program, refine curriculum alignment plans, precisely align with BFSU’s teaching standards, and improve phased development plans, thereby further advancing the professionalization and refinement of the program’s educational framework.

Diverse Field Study Programs: Cross-cultural exchange broadens international perspectives, while visits to prestigious universities clarify college admission pathways

During the afternoon study tour, the school organized a series of practical activities for students, including cross-cultural exchanges, campus tours, and project-specific lectures. During the cross-cultural interaction session, our students engaged in in-depth, all-English discussions with international students from various countries at Beijing Foreign Studies University, exchanging views on topics such as national cultural characteristics, international learning models, and experiences with applying to universities abroad. In this authentic international setting, students honed their practical English skills and cross-cultural communication abilities, effectively broadening their global perspectives and fostering an inclusive and open international mindset.

During the event, students toured the teaching facilities and educational environment on the BFSU campus, gaining firsthand experience of the rich academic atmosphere and international character of this top-tier university. Accompanying specialized lectures provided a comprehensive overview of the academic strengths of the BFSU School of International Business, the CHP 2+2/1+3 program framework, overseas partnership resources, and career development pathways. This comprehensive study tour enabled students to accurately align themselves with university academic standards, clearly outline their personal college admission plans, and significantly enhance their initiative and sense of purpose in their academic pursuits.

CHP Program: A Powerhouse Partnership Between TFS and Beijing Foreign Studies University, Unlocking New 2+2 and 1+3 Academic Pathways

The CHP Program (Certified High-school Pathway) is a Sino-foreign cooperative education initiative jointly developed by Tianjin Farragut School and the School of International Business at Beijing Foreign Studies University. Tailored specifically for students planning to study abroad, The program employs a “2+2/1+3” educational model: after completing their high school curriculum at Tianjin Farragut School, students spend two years at the School of International Business at Beijing Foreign Studies University, followed by two years at a partner institution abroad, ultimately completing their undergraduate studies and earning a bachelor’s degree recognized by the Chinese Ministry of Education.

The program’s greatest strength lies in its “pre-departure registration” mechanism, whereby CSCSE completes the student’s academic record certification before they leave the country. This differs from the traditional model of certification upon return from study abroad, providing students with more reliable assurance for their academic journey. Leveraging the dual accreditation of AACSB and BGA held by the School of International Business at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), combined with Faragut’s top-tier college counseling, the CHP program establishes a seamless pathway from high school to BFSU and on to prestigious overseas universities. This not only reduces the adjustment period required for studying abroad but also significantly enhances students’ competitiveness in applying to top-tier international institutions through the endorsement of these two leading institutions.
